A great day for HBCU excellence and collaboration!

We were honored to see President Chris V. Rey of Barber-Scotia College and President Anthony Davis of Livingstone College throw out the ceremonial first pitches at the HBCU All-Star Game in Kannapolis, hosted by Minority Baseball Prospects.

This special moment represented more than baseball—it showcased the power of HBCUs working together to create opportunities, celebrate student-athletes, and invest in the next generation of leaders. When our institutions collaborate, our impact reaches far beyond the classroom and the playing field.

Together, we continue to elevate the HBCU experience, honor our rich legacy, and build a stronger future for our students and communities.

Today, on National Higher Education Day, Barber-Scotia College had the pleasure of welcoming higher education, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, and community leaders to our beautiful and historic campus for a meaningful afternoon of connection, conversation, and possibility.

We were honored to spend time with Dr. Samaad Wes Keys of the Gates Foundation, Ed Smith-Lewis of the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs, President Chris Rey, Trustee Pridell “Dell” McCormick, and Trustee Chantel Thompson, alongside members of the Barber-Scotia College family.

The campus visit was guided by Zillah M. Fluker, Ph.D., Vice Chair of the Barber-Scotia College Board of Trustees, whose leadership continues to help strengthen strategic relationships, elevate institutional visibility, and create meaningful opportunities for partners to experience the legacy and promise of Barber-Scotia College firsthand.

Our time together included introductions, a walk-through of the library, Faith Chapel, and our hallowed campus grounds—spaces that continue to carry the history, resilience, and enduring mission of Barber-Scotia College.

Barber-Scotia College is proud to announce that President Chris V. Rey will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the HBCU All-Star Game on June 6 at Atrium Health Park!

This incredible event celebrates the excellence, culture, and talent of HBCU student-athletes from across the nation, and we are honored to have Barber-Scotia College represented on such a major stage.

From the classroom to athletics, HBCUs continue to shape history, build leaders, and inspire communities. We look forward to cheering on these outstanding athletes and celebrating the power and legacy of HBCU excellence.

Last night was more than a concert—it was a movement, a moment, and a reminder of what faith, community, and purpose can do when they come together.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who attended the Barber-Scotia College Gospel Experience. Your presence, your energy, and your support filled the room with something truly special—something that can only be described as God’s grace in motion.

A special thank you to the incomparable Hezekiah Walker for blessing us with a powerful, spirit-filled performance that lifted every soul in the building.

To every supporter who purchased a ticket, every sponsor who believed in the vision, every volunteer who gave their time, and every voice that helped spread the word—you are now a part of the Barber-Scotia story.
