Siblings Jesus and Vanessa Salamanca run a competitive co****le league for veterans on Wednesday afternoons in Merrimack.
Jesus started this league and NH Urban Sport (NH Urban Sport) shortly after coming back from active duty nearly ten years ago. He says he missed the sense of competition from being in the Army.
To help run the league, he roped in his sister, Vanessa, four years ago. She not only keeps the games on track, but tries to connect veterans to resources – everything from building community to getting a GED.
“I want to be able to advocate for the voices that are either afraid to speak up or just don't know how yet,” she said
For both, it’s been a rewarding experience.
“Now we're hanging out outside of the league. Now we're creating those connections outside of the league. And it just I feel like [it] sets the roots really deep in the community that we're trying to build,” Jesus said.
