If you’ve met us at a film festival, chances are you know us simply as…

Melissa & Bob. 💗

This is Bob Leone.

Writer. Producer. My business partner. The other half of Inspireworks Productions.

(And yes, the pink bow tie was planned. 😂)

One thing I’ve learned in filmmaking is that the right partnership changes everything.

We have very different strengths, and that’s exactly why it works.

Bob is the guy behind so many of the contracts, financials, budgets, and business pieces of Inspireworks, which allows me to step on set and focus on what I do best: directing.

But this picture only tells half the story.

He’s also the guy who will jump into a rehearsal, grab a suitcase, stand in for an actor, make the crew laugh, and remind everyone that filmmaking should still be fun.

That’s independent filmmaking.

When we started this journey, Bob believed in me before the awards, before the festivals, and before anyone knew what Inspireworks would become.

He saw the director in me and gave me the room to grow.

Over the years, we’ve become more than producing partners. He’s family. My second dad and truly the best partner a girl could ask for.

The longer I’m in this industry, the more I realize filmmaking is built on relationships. The people who believe with you, build with you, challenge you, and show up beside you.

I’m pretty grateful I get to build with Bob.

A great story is where it starts. 🎬
But the stories we remember usually become part of our lives.

When developing December to Remember, we’re not just thinking about making a movie. We’re thinking about building a world people want to step into.

🎵 The song you play every Christmas
🎄 The traditions your family brings back every year
☕ The coffee pot sitting on the kitchen counter
📖 The recipe book passed down from a mother
❤️ The moments that remind you of someone you love

Those little details matter.

They aren’t products randomly placed into a scene. They’re memories. They’re pieces of home.

Independent filmmaking is changing, and creating something meaningful also means thinking about connection, community, and what audiences want to carry with them.

A film starts with a story.

But the right story can become a tradition. ❤️🎄

I didn’t set out to make a movie about grief.

I set out to tell the truth.

Losing my mom changed the way I see life, family, time, and the moments we think we’ll always have.

Grief is one of those things you don’t simply move on from. You learn how to move forward with it.

For me, my faith became my foundation. And storytelling became the place God gave me to process the pain and turn it into something that could hopefully help someone else.

That’s where December to Remember was born.

It’s wrapped in Christmas, music, family, and romance… but at its heart, it’s about love, healing, and the reminders our loved ones leave behind.

Because sometimes the stories that hurt the most to tell… are the ones someone else needs to hear. ❤️

They’re about love that shows up anyway.

The parent who doesn’t always have the right words…

The child who doesn’t always understand until later…

The years, the memories, the moments that shape us.

One of my favorite parts of December to Remember has always been the relationship between Hannah and her dad, John.

Because family isn’t perfect.

People aren’t perfect.

But love, forgiveness, and showing up for each other, those are the moments that stay with us.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, father figures, and the ones who love quietly but deeply. ❤️

I still remember the movies that made me feel something.

Not because they had the biggest explosions.
Not because they had the largest budgets.

Because they made me call my family.
They made me laugh.
They made me cry.
They made me see a piece of my own story on screen.

Those are the films I’ve always loved.

And those are the films I want to make.

With December to Remember, the goal was never just to create a Christmas movie.

It was to create a story about the moments we wish we could get back, the conversations we wish we had, and the people who shape us long after they’re gone.

Because sometimes the smallest stories leave the biggest mark. 🎬

Others come from pieces of your own heart. 🤍

When we started developing December to Remember, I knew one thing, Grace McKay couldn’t just be “the mom who passed away.”

She had to be the kind of person whose love was still felt in every room after she was gone.

Because that’s what grief really is.

It’s not just missing someone.

It’s hearing their advice when you’re making a decision.
It’s seeing something and thinking, “I wish I could tell them.”
It’s carrying forward the pieces of them that changed you.

I lost my mom to brain cancer when she was only 52, and there are parts of Grace that will always be inspired by her.

This film is about loss… but more than anything, it’s about what love leaves behind.

Because some people leave us,
but the love they give never does. 🤍

This little girl had a dream. 🎬

At 5 years old, I told people I wanted to be an actress.

Most kids change their minds a hundred times.

I never did.

This headshot was taken when I was 12, braces and all. 😂

Not long after, I stepped onto my first professional set and fell in love with everything about storytelling.

The actors.
The crew.
The chaos.
The magic happening behind the camera.

Years later, I realized something…

Every audition.
Every rejection.
Every small independent project.
Every moment I wondered if I was crazy for still chasing this…

It was building the filmmaker I was becoming.

Because directing wasn’t a backup plan.

It was where all those years were leading me.

I started as an actor, and I think that will always shape the way I direct. I know how vulnerable it feels to stand on the other side of the camera, hoping someone sees something in you.

So now when I step onto a set, I carry that little girl with me.

The one who refused to give up.

The one who believed stories mattered.

And the one who would probably be pretty excited to know…

Some characters change a story… even when they’re no longer in the room. 🤍

In December to Remember, Grace McKay’s presence is felt everywhere.

In the recipes left behind.
The traditions she created.
The faith she lived.
The family she loved.

Because anyone who has lost someone knows… love doesn’t disappear when someone is gone.

Sometimes it shows up in the smallest moments:
A song.
A memory.
A place that still feels like them.

That was something I wanted this story to honor, the way grief and joy can exist together.

Christmas has a way of reminding us of who’s missing at the table… but also of the love they left behind.

And maybe healing isn’t about moving on.

Maybe it’s learning how to carry them with you. 🤍

A director sets the tone long before the camera rolls. 🎬

I’ve always believed the best performances don’t come from pressure.

They come from trust.

My job isn’t just to call action and cut, it’s to create a space where actors feel safe enough to take risks, explore, and bring pieces of themselves into a character.

Because when you’re telling a story about love, grief, family, faith, and healing… you can’t fake those moments.

You have to find the truth in them.

I started as an actor, and I think that will always shape the way I direct. I know what it feels like to stand on the other side of the camera. I know how vulnerable it can be.

So I protect that.

The schedule matters.
The budget matters.
The shot list matters.

But the people matter most.

And when people feel valued, that’s when the magic happens. 🤍
