Would you rather spend $6.2 million/year to help your neighbors eat healthy food or spend $2.4 BILLION/year to treat diet-related illnesses because they can't afford to? Food security is a matter of public health and is too expensive to not adequately address. Contact your representatives today and urge them to fund the Healthy Incentives Program at the $6.2 million it needs to support Massachusetts families. http://bit.ly/malegis

Over half of the $3 million spent on the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) in 2017 was spent by households that have seniors living in them. These families may not have been able to afford fresh produce without HIP. Here's a look at the facts about seniors in the U.S. facing hunger and the lack of access to healthy food. Charlie Baker's administration is threatening to inadequately fund this critical nutrition program in 2018. Contact your reps today to ask them to fund HIP at the $6.2 million needed to feed the hungry in our communities. http://bit.ly/malegis

As you read this, several members of our team are rallying at the State House with a hundred other farmers and food security advocates to fight for a better food system. On Feb. 14, The Food Project and dozens of farms in MA learned that the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP)—an initiative that provided over 36,000 Massachusetts families with fresh, healthy produce in 2017—would be suspended. Gov. Charlie Baker is suggesting a budget of $1.35 million—less than half of what was actually spent in 2017. The needed funding is $6.2 million! We need your help. Call, email, or send a letter to your representatives and ask them to support increased HIP funding to feed the hungry in our communities. http://bit.ly/malegis
