                                            Professor Neng Eva Wu
December 24, 1956 - September 19, 2025
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the unexpected and sudden passing of Professor Neng Eva Wu, who left this world on September 19, 2025, at the age of 68.  Born on December 24, 1956, Eva lived a life marked by intellectual brilliance, compassion, and devotion to her family. She was the cherished daughter of Hong-Bin Chen and Zhao xiong Wu, both of whom preceded her in death.  Professor Wu's academic journey began at the Northwestern Telecommunication Engineering Institute in Xi'an, China, where she earned her B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1982, specializing in signal processing. She continued her graduate studies at the University of Minnesota, earning her M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1983, with research focused on noise in semiconductor devices, and her Ph.D. in 1987, specializing in control science and dynamic systems.
She devoted her entire professional career- 38 years -to Binghamton University, where she had served as a full professor of electrical engineering since 2001. Her research included collaborative projects in fault-tolerant control systems with the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and NASA. She was widely recognized for her scholarly contributions, receiving the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities (2008-2009). Teaching was not only her profession but also her passion, and she inspired generations of students with her commitment, patience, and care. Her colleagues remember her intellectual curiosity paired with a genuine love of helping others, qualities that made her a cherished mentor and collaborator.  Above all, Professor Wu was devoted to her family. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Qi "Charles" Lu, and their two sons, Eric Daniel Wang, M.D., and Alan Dennis Wang. She is also survived by her sister, Monica Chen.  Outside of her professional life, Eva found joy in music and the performance arts, and she was an active member of the Binghamton Downtown Singers. She will be remembered not only for her academic accomplishments but also for her warmth, generosity, and steadfast devotion to her loved ones.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Savage-DeMarco Funeral Service, 338-344 Conklin Ave., Binghamton, NY 13903, followed by a memorial reception and celebration of life at 2:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Binghamton, 2-8 Hawley St., Binghamton, NY 13901. Family, friends, colleagues, and former students are invited to gather in remembrance of Professor Wu's remarkable life and legacy.
