MARK FORTNER — 3RD PRO-A

Mark Fortner’s Black Rock 2.0 started with a mistake on Cable Hill that dropped him to the back of the field.

From there, it became a race of recovery.

Fortner worked his way forward, spent much of the first lap riding with Hayden Mosa, then found himself back in the fight with Maverik Thaxton late in the race. The two battled through the closing stages before Thaxton slipped back ahead near the finish, leaving Fortner third.

Fortner was also putting a different kind of hard enduro machine to work—a 350cc two-stroke set up with lower gearing and softer suspension.

“I think it suits me. It’s fun, it sounds different, and when you need a bunch of horsepower, you just twist the throttle and it’s there.”

MAVERIK THAXTON — 2ND PRO-A

Maverik Thaxton spent much of Ohio Hard Enduro’s Black Rock 2.0 learning from one of the best riders on the course—and nearly turned it into a win.

Thaxton tucked in behind Quinn Wentzel early, studying his lines and using what he saw to navigate the slick terrain more efficiently. After moving into the lead on lap two, a bent shifter left him stuck in first gear and forced him to give up the position.

He still recovered to finish second after a race-long fight with Mark Fortner.

“I told myself to slow down to go faster.”

Smart riding, a tough mechanical, and a hard-earned P2.
This finish keeps Maverik in the championship series lead, 24 points ahead of Mark Fortner in second.

QUINN WENTZEL — 1ST PRO-A

New bike. New program. Same result. 🏆

Quinn Wentzel came to Black Rock 2.0 with only about an hour and a half on his new bike, using Round 5 of the Ohio Hard Enduro Championship Series as a chance to get comfortable with the setup.

Wentzel led most of the opening lap, briefly lost the advantage during a fuel stop, then moved back into first after Maverik Thaxton ran into a shifter issue.

“I felt right at home on it.”

A strong first outing on the new machine and another Pro-A victory for Wentzel.

GRAHAM KOBAK — 4TH AMATEUR

Sometimes the fastest way through hard enduro is to slow down.

For Graham Kobak, fourth place at Black Rock 2.0 came from focusing on staying upright, choosing his lines carefully and avoiding mistakes in the mud.

“If it was a harder section, I would just slow down and figure out my line and try and clean it first try instead of getting myself wrapped up in the mud and wasting all my energy.”

Coming straight from TKO with the same bike setup, Kobak summed up Black Rock simply: “This was just a beat-down.”

Graham finished 🥈 in class on the day and is currently sitting 🥉 in points for the overall championship series.

EMMETT COVINGTON — 3RD AMATEUR

Who needs a rear fender anyway? 😅

Emmett Covington lost his sometime during the second lap of Ohio Hard Enduro Championship Series’s Black Rock 2.0, leaving him to deal with plenty of mud—and one very slippery seat—on his way to third in the Amateur race.

The conditions changed throughout the race, with an extremely slick opening lap beginning to tack up as riders made their second trip through the course.

CORY KING — 2ND AMATEUR

From leading the race to bikes upside down in a rock garden, Cory King experienced just about everything Ohio Hard Enduro Championship Series’s Black Rock 2.0 could throw at him.

King and Bentlee Bredekamp found themselves tangled up in the rocks early, costing them several positions, but King fought his way back to claim second in the Amateur race.

“All in all, the track was good, super greasy and slimy. It was great single-track. Had a blast.”

This finish keeps Cory King in the Championship lead, ahead of Bentlee Bredekamp by 9 points.

Super slimy. Brutal. And a win at Black Rock 2.0. 🏆

Cory Jones overcame a derailed chain in a rocky creek on the opening lap to take the Amateur victory at Round 5 of the Ohio Hard Enduro Championship Series.

Jones credited the right tire choice—and plenty of traction—for helping him clean the slick climbs without needing a second attempt.
