Warning! This is a LONG post, BUT it contains a fairly complete list of all the WLSW announcers over the years. Please read on.
IT'S OUR ANNIVERSARY! On this date 4 years ago, 7/25/21, the WLSW FM104 MEMORIES page was launched. It originally was started to showcase the pictures that general manager Chris Molton (Christopher Sky) had taken over the years concerning WLSW. Photography was a passion of his and he ran a successful photography studio away from FM104. After Chris's passing, his wife Jill posted many pictures that she came across. She also started giving away Chris's 45's that were actually played on WLSW. We continue to do that today.
I, Joe Gearing (Joe Brian), started as a dj at WLSW in August 1976. I eventually added music director and program director to my duties as well, staying with the station till July 1988. In my time there, I kept a scrapbook of pictures, music charts and various tid bits from my radio days. I've posted most of it but there is still some stuff left that you will get to see. Jill and I would like to keep the page fresh with memories of WLSW FM104 and we ask all that if you have something of interest that we haven't posted concerning WLSW, get in touch with us, particularly former staff members.
Before we start our announcer list, we need to acknowledge 2 people that kept things in order for us at WLSW, our secretaries. Ruth Pleva was there from almost the beginning. She started as a secretary but eventually became office manager, handling a multitude of duties in the decades she worked there. Connie LaPorte, who lived just up Springfield Pike from the station, was our part time secretary for many many years. These ladies provided friendship, sometimes brought the staff food and even provided a few with the use of their homes if a situation called for it. They both were very caring and kind to all that worked at WLSW and were loved.
This announcer list is as complete as I have information for. Announcers from the early days, sports announcers, part timers and oldies jocks might be missing. If you worked for WLSW and are not on this list, contact us with your air name and years you worked for us.
WLSW went on the air on December 6, 1971. The first voice heard was the man the station was named after, Ludwig Stanley Wall. L S W. The original staff included Dave Raye, Herb Crowe, Tim Schweir and Don Gable.
