Rain couldn’t dampen the spirit as Relay For Life returned to UCA’s HPER Center on April 5, drawing an indoor crowd to raise funds against cancer.

Students, faculty, cancer survivors and caretakers turned out in great numbers to support the cause despite the stormy weather.

The UCA HPER hosted its annual Relay For Life fundraiser, featuring carnival games, local vendors, a farmers market and honor ceremonies.

Attendees enjoyed activities such as corn hole and a bounce house while learning about cancer awareness and the importance of community involvement.

UCA sophomore, Eli Gomez, is the owner of Eli Gomez Astrology and shared different aspects of his business and what goes into the process.

“My goal is to essentially bring awareness to how people can use astrology to help them — I’ve only been an astrologer for three years, and studying under a one-on-one mentorship has really helped me,” Gomez said.

Gomez has an online platform where you can book readings and get a better understanding of the academic side of astrology.

Elizabeth Seymour, a Memphis native, didn’t always know she was destined for a career in journalism, yet her college journey led her to discover her true passion.

A junior at UCA, Seymour originally set her sights on physical therapy; however, after realizing that science wasn’t her calling, she pivoted toward communication and journalism — two fields that align with her love for storytelling and sports.

Seymour found her calling at UCA after one tour of the campus and immediately fell in love with the Conwegian culture.

Local artist Kristijan Mitrovic brought the community together through his vibrant flower art in his first-ever art exhibition at The Studio Downtown, Blossoming Memories.

He said the “exhibit is actually called Blossoming Memories since I’m using the flower petal art and using the scrapbook paper, so it’s full of memories.”

“It is like a new, fresh start in spring, where everything is waiting. And just like flowers, they start blossoming the memories of the scrapbooks,” he said.

A new game from the developers of “Crypt of the NecroDancer” turns classic rhythm games into chaotic, monster-slaying battles.

According to Oxford Languages, a sport is defined as, “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment,” yet many would disagree on such a topic when dance is thrown in the mix.

While dance does not have the typical team dynamic, setup or equipment like other traditional sports, it still involves rigorous workouts, dedication and an overall dance-centered lifestyle.
