The Woolly Bu**er

One of the most recognizable and effective flies in the fly box is the woolly bu**er. This generalist fly will catch just about any fish it swims past and can often be a last resort for anglers looking to avoid the skunk.

•Categorized as a streamer, this subsurface fly can be fished at multiple depths and retrieval rates to mimic a baitfish, leech, grub, or crayfish among other forage items.
•Popular target fish are trout, bass, panfish, and pickerel but the woolly bu**er has been known to even catch carp and catfish.
•Creativity abounds with the woolly bu**er as you can find tying patterns and recipes that call for crystal flash, chartreuse, rubber legs, and cone-head or bead-head versions.

However, you should always have the tried and true black woolly bu**er in your box. If you are just starting out or a seasoned fly angler, the woolly bu**er is a staple fly that will surely catch fish.

The end of daylight savings time means these are the times most people are commuting to and from work.
