Social Optician

Social Optician Certified Optician since 2007, Social Media Management since 2015, Association member since 2019.

I help optical associations connect with their communities online through professional social media and web design, so they can focus on what matters most: empowering opticians. Bridging the gap between Opticians and Education is my passion.

Here is my ⚠️Warning Label Prompt:

⚠️ WARNING: THE SOCIAL OPTICIAN

Approach with a vague marketing idea at your own risk.

You may say:

“We just need a quick post.”

She will hear:

“Please develop a cohesive campaign, fix the event messaging, question our website navigation, find the missing sponsor logo, and determine why nobody has updated this page since 2023.”

There is no such thing as just a graphic.

There is the graphic.

Then the caption.

Then the Facebook version.

Then the Instagram version.

Then someone says, “Could we make it a Reel?”

She knows entirely too much about opticians, associations, CE events, exhibitors, sponsors, optical labs, websites, email campaigns, and the unique experience of trying to get a room full of optical professionals to actually engage with a social media post.

She will ask:

“But what are we actually trying to get people to DO?”

This question may ruin your perfectly good idea.

She is sorry.

Sort of.

She believes optical marketing does not have to look like it was created in 2007 just because that's when she became ABO certified.

She will absolutely move something two pixels and insist it looks better.

It does.

She will tell you when there is too much text on the graphic.

She will tell you when your website makes no sense.

She will tell you that posting the flyer as a JPEG is not, in fact, a social media strategy.

And if you say:

“Can you just make it pop?”

Proceed with extreme caution.

Because The Social Optician has opinions.

And now you're going to hear them. 👓😂

Ruby for the win. 💎

This is the first pair of Transitions Lenses I've had since 2004. That's when I started my first optical job. 👶

Here's what I can tell you.

They're cute. 🥳

But I sure do miss wearing my Drivewear 😎 sunglasses because of the polarization.

Now, there are polar options with this brand, but not the "cute" colors.

So, I'll be saving my ... nickels🪙, since no one is making pennies anymore😉, and will be updating my sunwear for sure.

Opticianry has a story worth saving. 👓✨
From hand-cut lenses and vintage frames to the evolution of labs, tools, and training… our industry has generations of knowledge behind it.

That’s why I love the idea of an Optical Heritage Museum — a place to preserve the legacy of opticians, celebrate the craft, and keep our history alive for the next wave of professionals.

If you’ve ever thought, “Someone should save this stuff…” — you’re right.
And it starts with us.

📌 What would YOU want to see in an optical museum?
Old tools? ABO history? Vintage frame lines? Classic dispensing books?

Did you know I started a Blog?
It's new, there are 3 posts live so far, with a download checklist option in the latest edition.

So, my Sunday has been some polishing up for next week, and drafting the next blog post, that will also have a download checklist available.

I never thought this business would take me where it has, but I'm so blessed and inspired on how it's moving forward!

Have a fantastic week!
