“The Police and The Private” from spring recital. I am pretty sure I took more photos of this piece than any other piece. It was so good. Great music, great choreography. Wonderfully performed.

Thanks to Stage One for having me out to photograph their shows. I love that I have been given those opportunities.

I might make this post every year, but this is 4th marching band season which marks the anniversary of me looking around at all my video gear and deciding I might as well use some of it for photos of Andrew and his friends.

It took me a year to even admit to being a photographer, and almost two years before I started doing anything beyond performance/action photography.

Not to get into it, but I bought my first camera (video/photography) because Andrew wanted to start a YouTube channel - it seems I pretty much owe all my creative work to a desire to capture images of my son.

We have blocked one Saturday in August to offer a limited amount of sessions doing some dancer street photos. We have already done a test run to find the best spots, poses and dance movements. Luke will bring his camera and Emma will bring her creativity and you will bring your beauty and talent.

Let me just openly admit something. It’s embarrassing. As I’ve shared this with other photographers I’ve gotten the response: “it’s my worst fear…”

I shot a series of recital performances a couple months ago. I still haven’t delivered them. The biggest reason is the amount of work I have on my plate has limited the time I can spend on editing. It was a huge project, but it should have been done by now. It still isn’t. It was rough from the jump. After shooting all the performances, I had the different casts saved in different places. And I unintentionally deleted an entire cast of photos. Like, super deleted them. Took me about 40 mins to figure it out and then I quickly made my way to Cardinal Computer. About 10 days later they called me with good news “we were able to save a lot of them”. Not all, but a whole lot. A big issue was that my folder structure was now long gone and a fair amount of the files were corrupted. Including adjusted file names… it was hard to sort through.

That was Cast A. I’ve finally made it through all of the cast. I’m not done with the other casts, but they will not require all the organizing work I had to do on these.

Anyway - for the client and dance moms that have been waiting, here is (at least) a little peak at some.

It’s been an incredibly busy spring for us. I’m still working through a ton of projects - head down, edit away.

However, these couple shots from ballet back in April - so good. Lights and practical visual effects on stage do much to shape the quality of photos. I love that they used a fog machine for a couple scenes and did an incredible job lighting this show.
