I can’t say enough about the, “Smart Traveler Enrollment Program” also know as STEP. It’s a program of the State Department meant to keep travelers informed and to help aid in the tracking down of US Citizens abroad in times of crisis. I enrolled about three weeks ago and set up my upcoming trips to Peru and Mexico. The Mexico trips are too far out for any notifications. But I’ve been getting information from the US Embassy in Lima at first weekly, now almost daily. It was my first warning that I probably should not be going.
