Coos County schools are making noise on the Oregon golf scene again in 2026, with multiple local programs punching tickets to the Oregon School Activities Association state tournaments after strong district title performances last week.
Leading the charge are the Marshfield Pirates boys team, the Bandon Tigers boys team and the North Bend Bulldogs girls squad.
Marshfield captured the Class 4A boys district championship in dramatic fashion, edging Marist Catholic by a single stroke at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell. The Pirates shot a 653 over two rounds to hold off the Spartans. Marist Catholic’s Dominic Angelastro took medalist honors at 156, with Marshfield’s Enoch Niblett one stroke back at 157. Carson Chandler, Lane Olsen and Mason Aurdahl helped the Pirates seal the team title as Marshfield continued a strong spring sports season across the board.
North Bend narrowly missed a boys team berth to state, finishing third in the district standings with a 702 total. Only the top two teams advance, and the Bulldogs fell just outside that cut. Behr Gordon, Rhyder Thornburg and Scott Martins paced the squad through a competitive two-day tournament.
Meanwhile, Bandon dominated the Class 3A-2A-1A District 3 tournament at Tokatee Golf Club. The Tigers shot a 610 over two rounds, finishing more than 80 strokes clear of the field and reminding the rest of the state that Bandon golf is still one of Oregon’s premier small-school programs. Medalist honors went to Davis Hartwell of Crosspoint Christian, the defending individual state champion, who shot a 6-under 66. Jackson Simonds, Sevren Quinn and Braedon Millhouser all posted outstanding scores as Bandon rolled to another district crown.
On the girls side, North Bend extended its remarkable run by winning its third straight district championship at Emerald Valley. The Bulldogs shot an 806 over two rounds, 16 shots better than second-place Marist Catholic, which also punched a ticket to state. Lola Davidson, Emily Heaton and Addyson Garrett were among the contributors as the Bulldogs continue to set the standard for girls golf on the South Coast.
Now the focus shifts to the Oregon School Activities Association state championships, where Coos County schools will compete against the best in Oregon. The Class 4A boys tournament returns to Emerald Valley in Creswell. The Class 3A-2A-1A boys field heads back to Tokatee Golf Club. And the girls state tournament goes to Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond.
For a county better known historically for football, wrestling and track, golf has quietly become another point of pride along the South Coast. In 2026, Coos County schools are proving once again they can compete with anybody in the state.
