Yup

Why are people coming from Eugene, Portland, and beyond?

Many folks have asked why residents from across Oregon are planning to participate in the counter-demonstrations connected to the Turning Point USA events scheduled for Coos Bay and North Bend at the end of January. The answer is straightforward.

This will be the first Turning Point USA event in Oregon since October 2024. Given the recent national media attention surrounding Turning Point USA and its activities, this appearance is drawing interest well beyond the South Coast.

As a result, what might otherwise be a small, local gathering is shaping up to be a statewide moment. People are showing up not because of where it’s happening, but because of what it represents. Oregon tends to pay attention when long absences end and controversial movements re-enter the picture.

Stay informed. Stay peaceful. And remember: civic engagement doesn’t stop at county lines.

Follow Coos Bay Area, OR and you’ll never miss a beat in Coos County!

Hey Janice Parker,
Thanks for your message. Just to clarify, the phrase “separation of church and state” in the U.S. context comes from the First Amendment, which is intended to protect the government from establishing or favoring any religion, while also protecting individuals’ free exercise of religion. It’s not about “protecting the church from the state” exclusively—it’s about ensuring the government stays neutral on religious matters.

As for TPUSA, we can disagree on politics without resorting to personal attacks. Critiquing policies or ideological patterns isn’t “hate,” it’s part of healthy civic discussion.

Peace be with you 🕊️✌️

Regarding Turning Point USA–Related Events in Coos Bay:

Here’s what we’ve confirmed regarding the upcoming Turning Point–related activities in the area.

One venue, The Egyptian Theatre, has stated that it received threats connected to the planned appearance of Turning Point USA. Due to these circumstances, the venue is requiring additional insurance coverage and a security deposit, which is why admission is being charged for that event.

A separate event at the North Bend Community Center is a privately organized dance hosted by Diane Rich. While it is open to the public, it is not a city-sponsored event and is Turning Point–based. Initial information provided to North Bend City Hall appears to have been incomplete, which contributed to some of the early confusion surrounding the event.

For additional clarity, ticket sales for the Turning Point event are being handled through an Eventbrite account overseen by Rob Taylor.

Regardless of political affiliation or ideology, threats of violence or property damage are unacceptable and are not condoned. Civil discourse, transparency, and lawful civic engagement are essential to a healthy community.

That said, it’s frustrating that the same small group continues to invite highly divisive organizations into our community, predictably creating turmoil and confusion. Maybe one day they’ll learn — but I’m not holding my breath.

We’ll continue to share verified updates as they become available.

Coos County’s so-called “Conservative Muscle” consists of a couple hundred geriatrics who have broken into two units based on “talent.” Either they join the Laugh Brigade or the infamous Tattle Squad.

Neither has any real teeth, figuratively or literally.

12/19/2025

The “Laugh Brigade” strikes again.

For those unfamiliar, this is the social media tactic where people don’t engage, don’t debate, and don’t offer ideas. They just mash the laugh button in hopes that mockery will do the thinking for them. It’s not persuasion. It’s not strength. It’s insecurity with Wi-Fi.

This was supposed to be the long-feared “conservative muscle” of Coos County. Turns out it’s just a comment section full of nervous giggles and performative contempt. Laughing at everything you don’t understand isn’t dominance. It’s a tell.

Real influence shows up. It organizes. It votes. It builds coalitions and communities. What it doesn’t do is sit behind a phone hoping emojis will silence change.

So laugh if you want. We’ll keep doing the work, shaping the future, and refusing to let this county be dragged backward or rebranded into something it’s not. Your giggles aren’t muscle. Not anymore.
