In a decision made during its meeting on Thursday, August 20, the Corcoran Cemetery Board announced a temporary ban on placing cups at headstones throughout the cemetery grounds. The board cited maintenance concerns and theft as reasons for the change.
Effective immediately, visitors are asked to refrain from placing any cups at grave sites. Residents who would like to pick up their cups from cemetery staff are encouraged to retrieve them during designated pickup hours next week, Monday, August 25 through Friday, August 29, between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. at the cemetery office.
The board emphasized that any cups remaining at headstones after Friday, August 29 will be removed by cemetery staff. Individuals who have returned cups to headstones are also required to remove them.
The Cemetery Board has not indicated when or if the policy will be lifted. The Corcoran Cemetery Board meets every third Thursday of the month at 8 a.m., at the cemetery office at 4170 Waukena Avenue, Corcoran, CA 93212. In the event of a meeting cancellation or rescheduling, a notice will be posted on the office door to inform the public.
