A music warm-up with my 4-year-old student, Emily, to Mozart 🤍Little ones need to move, so I love incorporating these active moments at the beginning or middle of our lessons to keep them engaged. While we’re doing body percussion to Mozart’s Turkish March, it’s not just about building coordination and rhythm — it’s also a wonderful way to introduce classical music and instill a great musical taste from an early age.
📹 It’s Studio archives video - Emily is 5 now and already reading and playing from notes. But this is where it all started!

Lesson with Oliviia, 3 y.o. 🎹 Before the keys, comes the ritual. To the sound of soft music, we take a moment to breathe, raise our hands softly, and gently settle them onto the keyboard. This simple musical warm-up helps release tension and sets a calm, joyful mood for learning. Teaching piano at age 3 is about sparking a lifelong love for music through play, patience, and connection. Look how diligent and focused our little pianist is!
🎥 Side note: this video was filmed by Oliviia’s 5-year-old sister, so excuse the shaky camera! 🥰

Lesson with Tymofii 🎹 It’s so rewarding when students grow to the point where they can play their favorite pieces for their closest people. “Kvitka Dusha” (Flower Soul), arranged by Afanasenko with Tymofii—created as a special gift for mom

Piano lesson with Valery. Working on 3-note legato and wrist flexibility.
Sixteen is such a great age for a mindful start—older beginners really feel arm weight, develop flexible wrists, and bring out that beautiful, singing tone.

A lesson with an adult beginner mom of four🎹
Behind the music, you can hear the kids laughing, running around, and living their best life. That’s real adult reality: a busy schedule, endless chores, and a house that is rarely quiet.

Waiting for the "perfect, silent moment" to practice? It simply doesn’t exist. But adult life is never a reason to put what you love on pause.

Carving out just 15 minutes at the keys—even amidst the beautiful chaos—isn’t about perfection. It’s about making space for joy, personal time, and weaving music into everyday life.

Joy over perfection, always. Start where you are. ✨

Lesson with Ayan: saying goodbye to summer with “Summertime”! ☀️🎹
• Piece: “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess (George Gershwin)
• Arranged by: Tetiana Afanasenko
Mastering a slow tempo with a rich, full tone while exploring iconic American jazz standards. Duets are such a powerful way to broaden repertoire and develop true stylistic nuance through active ensemble playing. Loved sharing this musical moment with Ayan! 🎶✨

Whenever we start something new, growth is hard to see day-to-day. It just feels like small, quiet steps.
Give it one year of consistency, and everything changes:
▪️Then: Playing a simple song on one note with one finger 🎹
▫️1 Year Later: Reading sheet music & playing children’s songs 🎶✨
This is how real learning happens. Step by step, note by note.
Watching a student grow like this is the greatest joy of teaching 🤍

3 pianists, 1 piano, and 35 years of Ukrainian Independence! 🇺🇦🎹 Leading up to August 24th, my students and I are playing Ukraine’s unofficial anthem, “Chervona Kalyna” (The Red Viburnum), arranged for six hands by Tetiana Afanasenko.
Playing six-hand piano is such an incredible experience — 3 players locking in together and turning a single keyboard into a mini-orchestra!

Do you want your child to...
▪️Know how to easily break down complex tasks into small steps?
▫️Have the grit to see things through to the end instead of giving up at the first setback?
▪️Know how to listen to themselves and collaborate with others?
All of this is built through... ordinary piano lessons.

Because the piano isn’t just about a future music career. It’s a powerful workout for the brain and emotions, preparing a child for the real world with all its intense pace, pressure, and overwhelming challenges.

As adults, nobody will ever ask them to play a C-major scale. But life will ask: “A complex project, a tough client, and a yesterday deadline. Where do you even start?”
And they’ll remember: “I’ve tackled a chaotic mess of notes before, and I figured it out.”

They might not become professional musicians. But the character, resilience, and inner strength they gain? Those will stay with them forever!
