🏈 FINAL: W.B. RAY STAYS UNDEFEATED, BEATS MARY CARROLL 30–19

Corpus Christi W.B. Ray High School improved to 4–0 Friday night with a 30–19 win over Mary Carroll.

Ray took control early, putting up 14 points in the first quarter and seven more in the second to take a 21–0 halftime lead.

Carroll Tigers came alive after halftime, scoring 13 points in the third quarter and six in the fourth, but the Tigers couldn't complete the comeback.

Ray added two points in the third and another touchdown in the fourth to close out the 30–19 victory.

🚨 : BISHOP'S FIRST WOMAN POLICE CHIEF RESIGNED AMID INTERNAL INVESTIGATION INTO RELATIONSHIP WITH SUBORDINATE OFFICER

A South Texas police chief who previously spoke about breaking barriers for women in law enforcement resigned while her department was investigating an alleged relationship with an officer she supervised.

Former Bishop Police Chief Sarah Torres resigned August 21 amid an internal affairs investigation, according to records.

Reports of the inestigation later sustained an allegation that Torres had an improper personal and sexual relationship with Officer Rene Guerra, who worked under her at the Bishop Police Department.

According to the investigation report, Torres and Guerra acknowledged having an ongoing consensual sexual relationship while Guerra was an active department member. Investigators concluded the relationship violated department policies involving professional conduct, fraternization, conflicts of interest and supervisor-subordinate relationships.

Guerra resigned August 19. Torres resigned two days later, on August 21.

Torres stated in her resignation letter that her decision to leave should not be interpreted as an admission or acceptance of allegations concerning her conduct.

The investigation was completed September 8 and certified September 11, according to the report.

Torres made history in 2025 when she became Bishop's first woman interim police chief. At the time, she publicly spoke about the challenges women face in law enforcement and said leadership required dedication, integrity and service.

Neither Torres nor Guerra went through formal disciplinary proceedings before leaving the department, according to the records described.

🕊️ ALICE MAN KILLED AFTER PICKUP ROLLS MULTIPLE TIMES IN JIM WELLS COUNTY

A 51-year-old Alice man has died following a rollover crash Thursday night in Jim Wells County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the man as Jose Falcon Jr.

According to DPS, the crash happened shortly after 10:20 p.m. Thursday on County Road 463, just south of County Road 460.

Investigators say Falcon was driving a 2023 Dodge Ram 2500 southbound on County Road 463 when the pickup left the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation.

The truck then traveled back across the roadway before rolling multiple times and eventually coming to rest upside down in a field.

DPS said Falcon was ejected from the pickup during the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Texas Highway Patrol troopers from the Alice office are continuing to investigate what caused the crash.

Photos shared with Crónica show Falcon during happier moments, including one alongside a young child.

Behind every fatal crash is a person whose absence will now be felt by the people who knew and loved them.

Jose Falcon Jr. was 51 years old.

🐟 18,000 CATFISH STOCKED IN LAKE CORPUS CHRISTI AND CHOKE CANYON AFTER WATER LEVELS REBOUND

Thousands of new channel catfish have been released into two South Texas reservoirs after rising water levels created improved conditions for fish.

Texas Parks and Wildlife's Inland Fisheries Corpus Christi District says crews recently stocked approximately 18,000 channel catfish between Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon Reservoir.

Each reservoir received about 9,000 catfish.

The stocking comes after a major change in reservoir conditions since earlier this year. According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, Lake Corpus Christi increased from about 9% full in March to 85% in September, while Choke Canyon increased from approximately 8% to 22% during the same period.

There's another benefit to that rising water.

As reservoir levels increased, water covered vegetation that had grown on previously dry portions of the lake beds. That submerged vegetation now provides additional habitat and cover for the newly stocked catfish.

The Corpus Christi Fisheries Management Team worked with the state's Inland Fisheries Hatcheries Branch to stock the fish while conditions were favorable.

For South Texas anglers, officials say the stocking is an investment in the future of fishing at both reservoirs.

The turnaround at Lake Corpus Christi is particularly notable after months of extremely low water levels during the prolonged South Texas drought.

🚨 MISSING 71-YEAR-OLD WOMAN LAST SEEN THIS MORNING IN CORPUS CHRISTI

Corpus Christi police are asking the public to help locate 71-year-old Charlene Norrismoon, who was reported missing Friday morning.

According to CCPD, Charlene was last seen around 8 a.m. Friday, September 18, in the area of Paul Jones Avenue and Holly Road.

Police describe Charlene as approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall and 140 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes.

She was last seen wearing a blue shirt and blue shorts, and police said her hair was braided.

Anyone who sees Charlene or has information about where she may be is asked to call 911 or the Corpus Christi Police Department at 361-886-2600 immediately.

Please take a close look at her photograph, especially if you live, work or were traveling near Paul Jones Avenue and Holly Road this morning.

MEET CONNIE SCOTT: NUECES COUNTY JUDGE SEEKING RE-ELECTION IN NOVEMBER

Nueces County voters will decide this November whether County Judge Connie Scott receives another term leading county government.

Scott has served as Nueces County Judge since January 2023. Unlike a traditional courtroom judge, the county judge serves as the presiding officer of Commissioners Court, the county's chief budget officer and head of emergency management.

Before becoming county judge, Scott represented District 34 in the Texas House and served on the Regional Transportation Authority board. She also spent years in the private sector, including co-owning a pipeline construction company.

During Scott's term, Nueces County has moved forward with infrastructure and drainage work across the county. County financial records report that Commissioners Court secured $31 million in federal mitigation funding for countywide drainage improvements.

Scott's re-election campaign says her administration has focused on stabilizing county finances, recovering taxpayer money, supporting county employees and addressing aging county facilities and infrastructure.

The county has also faced financial challenges during her tenure. At the 2025 State of the County, Scott publicly acknowledged that county reserves had fallen below their usual level and said officials were considering property sales and other measures to strengthen the county's financial position.

Scott's campaign is running under the message “The Work Matters,” arguing that voters should judge her first term by how county government has been managed.

Scott is seeking re-election in the November 3, 2026 general election.

🐾 FROM EUTHANASIA LIST TO MAKING BORDER PATROL HISTORY: MEET CHLOE

A rescue dog once placed on a euthanasia list has been given a remarkable second chance — and is now making history after graduating from the U.S. Border Patrol Canine Academy in El Paso, Texas.

Chloe, a 2½-year-old Schnauzer-Poodle mix, was taken to a New Mexico shelter in January and placed on its euthanasia list days later.

Her story changed when the Animal Rescue League of El Paso stepped in on February 10. Founder Loretta Hyde saw potential in Chloe, who was eventually selected for the Border Patrol canine program.

Chloe completed five weeks of specialized training at the Border Patrol Canine Academy in El Paso and graduated May 15. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, she became the first rescue dog to graduate from the program as a critical incident response K-9.

But Chloe isn't trained to chase suspects or detect drugs.

Her job is to provide comfort to Border Patrol employees, their families and public-safety personnel experiencing grief, trauma or stressful events.

Chloe is now partnered with Border Patrol Agent Miguel Carrillo and assigned to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Since graduating, the pair have already deployed across the Gulf Coast to support people during difficult situations.

“Chloe represents the power of second chances,” Acting Chief Patrol Agent Adam Calderon said.

Just months ago, Chloe's future was uncertain.

Today, she's wearing a badge of her own and serving alongside the people who gave her a second chance.
