UNION TOWNSHIP — Work to refurbish a pre-cast reinforced concrete culvert bridge on Waterford Street (Old State 97) over a tributary of French Creek in Erie County will begin today Monday July 9 and be completed by August 10.

A detour will be posted on Waterford Road (Route 8) to Grand Army of the Republic Highway (Route 6) and Flatt Road (Route 2003).

The project will occur west of Kimball Hill Road (Route 2009), then west to the intersection of Union Leboeuf Road (Route 2008).

This project is made possible in part by Act 89, Pennsylvania’s transportation funding plan.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers.

Susan Ottaway, former president of the Union City Public Library board, gave a history of the library on Wednesday at at an event celebrating the library’s 110th anniversary. Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper and state Rep. Curt Sonney were present at the celebration and gave citations to the library in recognition of the milestone.
