I see all the time with clients. They ask me why their Facebook ads aren't working.

That's not the question to ask. You need to be thinking if you should be spending ads on Facebook at all.

Consider that Facebook is a space where people like to be entertained, not informed. An ad that's a straight-up sale might lead to a purchase; an ad that makes them amused or intrigued has a much better shot of doing it.

If your goal is to pump out some ads quick and you don't have the budget for videos or elaborate graphic design, Google Ads are a better fit for you. The user intent on there is more slanted toward taking actions (purchases, form fills) that benefit your business. It's also easier to track ROI than Facebook and other ad platforms as well.

I can help you decide where to market your business. Reach out at http://www.saguarosocialmedia.com for more.

Do NOT just sign your business up for social media platforms just to do it. Consider the benefits and purpose of being on each platform, with this handy graphic as your guide!

When I work with clients, I normally recommend starting on Facebook, as it has the largest user base and is a great place to fit most types of your content. But it really all depends on your business, and how you believe it will be served by a social platform.

I'm here to help with all of that. Check me out at http://www.saguarosocialmedia.com to learn more!

Are you doing what makes you passionate?

It’s not often you get to answer “yes” to that question, but I am lucky enough to.

As a kid that grew up in Scottsdale, I have a fondness for the community I once called home. That’s why it’s an honor and a blessing to work on the Scottsdale Vibes Podcast, doing their social media.

I love working with a dedicated host that wants to spotlight a city that’s so full of life and love. Within half a year, we average hundreds of downloads a week and thousands of engagements -- a combination of good content and even better ad spend management.

I can help you in the same way. Just go to http://saguarosocialmedia.com to find out how.

If you’re a business owner, you’ve probably felt the temptation to join every social media channel known to man.

Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, Snapchat, heck, let’s go back to 2013 and join Tumblr too!

If you’re looking to market your business, that’s the exact OPPOSITE thing you should do.

Here’s why: you’re stretching your marketing efforts thin before you even start them. Making several versions of one post (each for a social channel) is time-consuming enough; but what about developing a strategy for each, or even managing ads?

Take all the manhours that can be, and multiply it by the number of social channels you have. Very quickly, you’ll start drowning.

At Saguaro Social Media, I advocate that you start with one channel, typically the one that matches best with the user you’re trying to reach.

If you’re a restaurant, I’d recommend starting out on Instagram since you’re selling visuals. If you’re a law firm, I’d recommend LinkedIn since you’re likely doing Business-to-Business (B2B) marketing.

Spend the time it takes to develop a quality content calendar for one channel, execute it, then see how it affects your business. Then move on to boosting your posts with ad spend. Once you master that for a social platform, it’s on to the next one.

If that sounds like a lot, remember that I’m here to help you every step of the way. Learn more at http://saguarosocialmedia.com.

There are moments where I sit at the computer and just stare at it, unsure of what to write.

This is what happens when you hit a creative wall. And it can be the most depressing thing on Earth.

This advice from Defector isn’t just for writers; it’s for anyone in the marketing or social media, which require you to harness your creativity in ways that might seem out of reach - but you can.

Give it a read, I know you’ll enjoy it:

The mere act of finishing is its own useful enterprise. You finish one thing, and now you have license to either fix it or start a new idea. If you start a new idea, your experience finishing the old idea—regardless of its quality or content—will give you a hand in finishing it.

Let's step away from the computer and take a time to talk about your life.

Yes, it's important to stay focused on work. Yes, you need to be productive within the social media field. But it's just as crucial to take breaks and do tasks that fulfill you on a personal level.

Believe it or not, your work DOES benefit from this, and it's not just because you come back fresher. Filling your life with unforgettable experiences gives you a well of authenticity to draw from when creating posts. That realness is what makes the best social pages so dang fun to read and see.

I love to hike, it makes me feel connected and spiritual. That unique experience helps me write in a wistful, yet real, way that stands out. In my opinion, if a post doesn't make you smile, cry, or nod like you learned something new, then it's time to rewrite it.

So SMILE and do something you love today. Your job will thank you later.

Let's talk about likes, shares, and comments. Around the industry, they're known as "vanity metrics", but what does that really mean?

A "vanity metric" is something that makes your business look better on social media, but has no discernible profit for your company. The standard line you'll hear from advanced social media folks is that these are dumb and you shouldn't be focusing on them.

But are they correct? Increasing your page following and paying for engagements don't necessarily lead to profit, but they can increase the brand awareness and social footprint for your business. So I wouldn't forego them entirely.

Rather, I would advise any clients to understand the role they have in marketing their business, what they bring to the table, and what they don't. At the same time, it helps to see what are some ways you can provide trackable return-on-investment via social media.

As with most things, this relies on great communication with your client, clearly outlining the pros and cons of social media. Need help with it? Check us out at saguarosocialmedia.com

This is a chart for creatives, but it really applies for anyone struggling to come up with content for their social feeds.

The way to beat burnout over your social content? Teamwork! I always tell clients that it's important to be a partner in each other's success. I suggest certain types of content (typically photos or videos), and then I put it on social with the best copy possible. More people means more ideas, both of which are good!

If you're a business owner that feels like you're running on empty with your social, schedule a free 15-minute consultation at sagaurosocialmedia.com.

Showing off a logo I designed for a website I made called Brewtiful Daze which chronicled the Arizona beer scene. Looks pretty brewitful, eh? (I'll stop.)

Pro tip: whenever you design a logo, always make it transparent and put it in several different colors. It helps give you options when designing FB & LinkedIn cover photos!

No more posting without a strategy! That's like taking a raft out to sea with no paddle.

ASK YOURSELF THIS: What is the direction of my social? Am I trying to use it to generate sales? Am I trying to get a ton of people to respond to my posts? Is it merely a thing to "have" so I can do what my competitors are doing?

I'm not here to tell you which of those three strategies is the best. You have to understand what best suits your business. But I can assist in helping you come to that conclusion.

Wanna know how? Just schedule a free 15-minute consulting call at https://buff.ly/3huN3wA.

This is SO TRUE! Sometimes, dark social media marketing is all you can do. That's when you put out a social post with no analytics or data to justify the efforts you do.

Now, it's easier than ever to give your customers more. You can combine website analytics with proper tagging to give them a greater understanding of how social drives their sales and social growth.

Even if you don't manage their social, at least you can point them in the right direction of where to go. It's where I get some of my best business.

Here's a great social media tip that has nothing to do with technology: preach structure, but practice flexibility.

A year ago, I mentioned to my fianceé how stressed out I felt during work, so she recommended this planner. It was the best gift I ever got.

Why? Because it allows me to divide up my tasks by client, and create efficient services that always make my clients feel heard when it comes to their social media.

At the same time, social media is an industry where a lot of fires often pop up. In case something does happen that needs help ASAP, I'll scribble it down on my planner and do it by the end-of-day, holding myself accountable.

I wanted to share a little industry knowledge with you: those “best time to post” lists you see mean nothing.

Sure, it might be better to post content at 9 AM instead of midnight. But the algorithms of these platforms don’t care about when they post - they care about who you’re posting to.

That’s why it’s important to prioritize content that will engage audiences. Often, the best way to do this is by paying for engagement ads and boosting every single post through it. Once they respond to your posts a few times, the Facebook feed will show you more content of theirs.

Take that advice with you -- it will help your social media.
