Construction on Oregon State University’s Corvallis campus has been ramping up over the summer break. Projects include the Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex, Dixon Recreation Center, The Valley Library, and a new student dorm.

Many projects will wrap up before the start of fall term. However, several will extend into the new school year.

As summer goes on, many Oregon State University students spend the season in Corvallis, whether to take classes, work jobs, or simply enjoy the town.

Although OSU’s campus has become much quieter, there are still plenty of activities in the area, including numerous services provided by the university for students during the offseason.

Starting in July, the Daily Barometer newspaper will hit the racks on the second Monday of every month.

The new release schedule aligns with the coming school year, so that future papers will come out when more students are on the Corvallis campus, rather than away during breaks.

This replaces the previous schedule, in which the newspaper was released on the first Monday of every month.

The Barometer is committed to maintaining a consistent schedule.

Oregon State University has recently announced that they will be “sunsetting” two programs that promote diversity, equity and inclusion at the university this coming fall term.

The first program, Search Advocate Program, established in 2008, “enhances equity, validity, and inclusive excellence in university hiring,” according to the program overview on their website.

The second program set to close is the Social Justice Education Initiative. According to the SJEI’s website, the program “provides interactive workshops that build community among OSU faculty, graduate students, and staff with the goal of positively impacting educational, research, and employment outcomes.”

Introducing our new Editor-in-Chief for this summer!

When Alex Hyatt began at The Barometer, the first thing he did was stumble into a phone interview with Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon.

“I was just emailing his assistant, and when he called me, he said, ‘Hey, I’ll put you on with Senator Wyden now,’” Hyatt said.

A few terms later, Hyatt is preparing to step into the role of Editor-in-Chief on June 16.

Editor’s note: This story has been reposted after a correction was made in the original post.

Kayla Ramirez and Masha Mogylevsky were inaugurated as the new president and vice president of the Associated Students of Oregon State University for the 2025-2026 academic year June 1.

Due to the current pause on ASOSU functions and the suspension of the ASOSU constitution, the start of their positions remains unclear. The shutdown was initially planned to end on May 2, but was extended indefinitely on that date instead.
