I received official word this week that Kirk Johnson, the founder and leader of the global organization, has decided to, as he put it, "throw in the towel." The Fan Film Project, as a global effort, is no more.
This means that such projects as "Doctor Who 2.0 Origins," "Intergalactic Space Rangers," and the like are no longer being pursued.
At this time I don't know whether Kirk is giving up on it altogether, or just putting it on a shelf with the possibility of revisiting it at some later date. I'm hoping for the latter, as are many other people who have been involved at the global level, but right now I just don't know. (I suspect that Kirk doesn't either.)
What does this mean for us, in our local group? Well, there's going to be a name change for this Facebook group; most likely I'll just go with Hybrid-Divergent Productions, though I may go with something else if a good one comes to me.
The only project we've had planned that this news should affect is "Shadows of Enkara," since that's based on some of Kirk's intellectual property; I'm still trying to work out whether we can still produce that or not..
Other projects, including "Crossed Swords," "Erasure," "Doctor Nose," and so forth, can go forward without any additional troubles (on top of what we're already experiencing). How that will happen has yet to be worked out, but at least they're not much affected by the closure of TFFP.
