Good morning class of 2024 parents! As we barrel into December, there are a lot of things going on for you: graduation plans, college plans, FAFSA, scholarships, caps and gowns ... it's a lot. I know, my son is a senior, too. It's a roller coaster and even more extra work than making sure your kiddo gets through their final year of high school.

I just wanted to remind you of a fun opportunity for you to celebrate your soon-to-be grad! We are about two weeks out from the deadline to purchase a senior remembrance ad for your graduate. So scroll through your camera roll on your phone and dig up all those cherished (and probably embarrassing) memories of your not-so-little-any-more one and create an ad for them that they'll love when they see their ad in the 2024 yearbook. The deadline to purchase these ads is Dec. 15, 2023. Click below to start designing and purchasing your senior's ad.

You can purchase senior ads at the link above. Just make sure you have some photos, words of wisdom and some Kleenex handy to create your grad's ad. You can also purchase their yearbook at this link above as well. The price of the book goes up to $65 (from $50) on Jan. 1, 2024, so buy now.

There's a great new way to show our school spirit! On Walsworth Yearbook's new site, you can buy this year's yearbook or a yearbook ad. I showed my school spirit, and you should too. Just go to the website and have fun!

Being Real With Beckmann

When talking to students who had Mr. Beckmann as their government teacher, it is exceptionally hard to find one who has had a bad experience in his classroom. When asked about the possible reasons behind this, Mr. Beckmann responded with, “I just think I’m better than everybody. Kidding aside, I’m sure there’s plenty of students who did not enjoy my class. I honestly think I am just real with the kids, which, for them, might be refreshing. I am also very authentic on who I am. I don’t try to be somebody I’m not or do things that don’t fit my personality. I’m not going to wow somebody with the new-age classroom instruction, but I can share a story and keep kids engaged, while trying to tie it to the content.”

Junior Kat Mann has a reputation for positivity and kindness. Her classmates and teammates know that they can always look to her for encouragement. But there is one thing that drives her crazy.
“[I hate] when people are mean to others for no reason,” Mann said. “They’ll have no reason to hate this person or be mean to them, but they’re just mean and I don’t like it. People shouldn’t be made fun of.”
Although Mann might be best known for her kindness, she’s also fairly famous for her school spirit. She’s always ready to support the football team regardless of the theme, yet one theme stands out every year.
“My favorite theme is the red, white, and blue American theme. I love that one because I have a red, white, and blue hat that I wear all the time. I absolutely love it!”

A substitute arrives at their assigned classroom before the clocks in the school show 7 a.m. wondering how their newfound long-term position will fare. A teacher makes their last preparations for the school day and feels the excitement of the first few days of school fade, their career once again re...

Here's the second of the five selected so far this year, a story about football coach Malach Radigan's means of building the foundation of his team.

“I am somebody. I am loved. I am valued. I am accepted.” This chant can be heard from students at the first bell of any of Coach Malach Radigan’s classes. Both a teacher and the head coach of the football team, Coach Radigan focuses on building character in the classroom and on the field. But....

“I’ve been in the district since fall 2020. I was a nurse, but hospitals are a lot, and for years I was a stay-at-home mom. And then, I came back as a one-day week secretary. Then I started subbing as a nurse, then I applied last year. I like being here with Sam. Even when I’m working full-time, I still see her. She’s going away soon, but while she’s home, I like knowing she's a part of my workday. I could never do that in the hospital. It definitely makes me happier - I’ve got some of my home life here. The hospital scene isn’t looking too great, I don’t have any concrete plans. Stuff comes into my head all the time. There's lots of new nursing jobs that didn't exist when I started. So who knows. There's so much variety. You think you’re going to do one thing, then you end up where you end up.”

Hodges Runs Around Europe Experiencing Cultures
“The trip was about 13 days long and during it, we went to Germany, France, and Spain. The trip was for people in all of the language classes, although no one from the German classes signed up, and I was able to get by with the French that I learned in French class. My favorite part of the trip was learning about all of the cultures. We saw a lot of popular places like the Mona Lisa which was cool. We also went to see this concentration camp and it was really emotional and eye-opening. The rules on the trip were nice and it wasn’t like any other field trip, like we could go out by ourselves during the evening but we had a curfew from 10-11 PM. And we had to send a curfew selfie so the teachers would know we were in bed.”

In April, Senior Natalee Shipley’s family became 1,500 miles apart. When her dad took a new job in California, she stayed behind with her mother so she could graduate. Slowly, the house became empty.
As a ceramic engineer, Shipley’s father worked long hours that he eventually burnt out on, so when a company in California called he seemed to just hop on the flight. Now he lives alone in California with his wife and daughter 1,500 miles away.
“He was unhappy with his job, so he decided to get a new one,” Shipley said.
The Shipley house is accustomed to the loss as Shipley’s siblings have all left for college, but now the household has dwindled down to two.
“It’s really strange now; he used to eat dinner with us but now he’s not there. It feels very empty,” Shipley said.
Shipley and her mom are going to spend this next year just the two of them with only phone calls tying them to her father. While, her mom will move to California when Shipley graduates, her father’s location hasnt played a big role in her college decision.
“My mom’s going to move with him as soon as I graduate, but I don’t plan on living in California,” Shipley said.
