Did you know that Cumberland Falls in Kentucky is one of two places on earth where you can consistently see a moonbow?
It occurs when light from the moon refracts through water droplets in the air.
Your best chance of seeing a moonbow is on the night of a full moon, or the couple of nights before and after when the moon is nearly full. (Can possibly be seen up to 5 days after a full moon)
We lucked out and saw the moonbow on the 3rd night after the full moon.
The best spot to see the moonbow is the first viewing area of the falls.
We dressed in layers and also packed chairs while we waited for nature’s magical moment.
Have your camera ready to capture it because the colors show up even better in pictures and you’ll have proof.
It’s so surreal in person…which is why I took a ton of pictures in anticipation of the “shot.”
There’s a schedule online with dates for the entire year and the viewing window on the Cumberland Falls State Park website.
