The Board of County Commissioners has issued a mandatory evacuation for all of Wakulla County no later than 8:00 am on Thursday 9/26/24. Based off of the current forecast information Wakulla County Emergency Management is anticipating our county being impacted in some way by a major hurricane (category 3 or higher). Citizens need to be working on their evacuation plans and making the necessary preparations around their homes to limit the possibility of flying debris.

Current models are predicting approximately 12 feet of storm surge for our county. A 12 foot storm surge would be an historic event and not survivable for those along coastal or lowing areas that would be affected. The impacts of a 12 foot or possibly higher storm surge would be felt well inland from the coastline. Additionally, the impact of strong winds will likely cause some building damage and widespread power outages to our region.

No shelters will be opened in Wakulla County. We are still working with our state and local partners to arrange for shelters, however this storm is large and every county in our area is likely to be impacted.

The time to prepare is now, as conditions will likely begin to deteriorate tomorrow afternoon. Now is the time to form an evacuation plan, make sure items in your yard is picked up and put away, and finish up getting supplies. Sandbags will be available at the Sheriff's Office until close of business today for those that may need them.
