🎥 "It's looking like garbage visually."
If you were watching Monday's meeting on Facebook and the feed kept cutting out, this is the piece you missed. A citizen got up during public comment at the end of the meeting and said what a lot of people have been thinking.
Her point: Wakulla is a straight line to the coast with no town center, no downtown, nowhere to hang Christmas lights and call it charming, nothing like the surrounding communities that do have that. She said she doesn't get involved in "small county" politics much, but she came out specifically because the animal shelter matters to her, and she wanted the board to hear it directly: start caring more about where this community is going, and show it.
She had one clear exception. A shoutout to Valerie, who she called amazing, twice.
Audio issues aside, this is worth the full watch.

That's the question a local Marine Corps veteran put directly to the Wakulla BOCC, and it's the one we can't stop thinking about either.
He's been showing up to commission meetings since June to talk about what happens to the Veterans Service Office under the county's Strategic Organizational Restructuring plan. His point: veterans services got lumped in with the animal shelter and the library in that plan, proposed to be handed off to a volunteer agency with no accountability and no recourse, right as the county's own numbers say deeper cuts are coming. He had to go through three or four different agencies before he found the one county staffer who actually helped him. Without that help, he says, he might be homeless. And when the conversation turns to veteran homelessness, it turns to su***de risk too.
He got out of the Marine Corps in 2010 and says the marginalization has been building ever since. His ask isn't complicated: hold somebody accountable, not the volunteer stepping in to fill the gap, but the person "writing the budget," the person "driving the boat."
