I can't believe it's been 35 years since my last full live show!?! Crazy how fast it goes. The live shows were never my favorite part of it all. I loved the creative and studio part much more than the performative part. But, I do miss playing with a band in front of friends and fans. I don't miss playing the clubs that would put us with metal bands we should have never been paired with. It was a strange situation for us as the scene catered to not mainstream acts, so as a 'popular' band the only place we fit in was at the next level. It always caused an internal rift musically for the band and as writers as well. So being stuck playing in the clubs didn't really benefit our situation any by the 90's which was why we started self promoting in the theatres and didn't gig the scene so much.

April 5, 1991
Naval Weapons Station Earl, Colts Neck, NJ. Just before what turned out to be my last full live show. I had already made the decision to leave the band for a solo project not long after Flavio left. This turned out to be the only show happening on what started out as the beginnings of a USO tour in Europe, so I knew it was the last one I would do with Rising Star and Vanity Entertainment. Jimmy Patryx, lead singer of the popular Staten Island band NY FURY, filled in for us on guitar this show! A band under the management of Matt Bongiovi was on this show with us as well, Bad Medicine was their name if I recall.

Set List:
High School Days
Pins & Needles
Dirty Movies
If I Wasn't Made of Diamonds
Little Darlin'
Into The Night
All Night Action

Lead Vocals: Jeff Roberts
Guitar: Jimmy 'Patryx' Whipert (NY FURY)
Bass & Keyboards: Jimmy Bristol
Drums: Bobby "T**z" Thompson

The last song I wrote with Jeff Roberts for Rising Star in January of 1992 before stepping away from music for college. Living in Pt. Pleasant Beach I fell in love with the ocean and thought I'd study to become a marine biologist starting at OCC when the scene collapsed. I did work at the aquarium for a while but audio work and pay drew me back to production and into television after a local station visit and production that I was involved in on behalf of Jenkinson's. After finishing an associates I went full time into TV.

2005 was the last classical multitrack recording project I worked on.
Danny Weltman's Breaking The Surface album.

Sometimes the best production work I can do is to tell an artist there is nothing I can add to what they've already put together and the best I can do is to record them with as little added flavor as possible. That was Danny's record. He had been playing the songs locally with talented guitarist/ producer, Jason Jack and drummer Mike Shearer for sometime and they were locked in. We started recording on ADAT XT20's at the gym he worked overnight in Red Bank's Galleria purportedly at Jon Bongiovi's suggestion as the rooms acoustics were good. And, they were, but it became a struggle and costly to keep coming in and out in the middle of the night and, he ended up in a formal studio in the final product. Those ADATs were ran off onto to early Cubase software with MTC for mixing, so fully digital and mixed non-linear, but the last vestiges of multitrack recorders and punching in for me. There was only one thing changed on the album from the recordings we did and I thought it was brilliant. The whole record is in fact. Check it out.....

It's strange how I've never met many of my scene peers since I don't gig like so many of them do and haven't for decades. I'm also not a social butterfly and my path behind the scenes led to much more television work over music. But, we all seem to know of each other. I'd love to work with many of them but we don't talk, or some may not know I'm interested or my history and depth and it feels strange for me to cold contact folks or name names on here. Especially if they truly have never come across me which is also highly likely; particularly now in this shattered cyber culture. I actually did try to reintroduce myself to a couple of people who stood out to me over the years and I would have loved to have collaborated with when I first came back to writing. I did it on the suggestion of a mutual friend but it went terribly awkwardly and didn't materialize into anything, so.... I'm actually not an egomaniac or hard to work with as people quickly realize when we actually connect and I'm actively looking to collaborate with other area talent to help them write more songs and fill gaps in their setlist, projects or catalogs. Maybe we'll even write a hit together?!? I do my best when you shine through what we create. It's what I love to do. So please, cold contact me if you think I'm speaking to you because I just may be. I've been watching the scene for a couple of years now and know I could do some really special collaborations with more than a few of you. Message/email me let's meet. Worst thing that could happen is we don't connect on the first try? That happens. Take a chance. Let's chat.

First step would be to set up a phone or zoom call type interview to establish what we may be able to get together on and basic understanding of the ways in which we accomplish those goals. Simple.

Second would be to get together with a few ideas or starts to get a collaboration going based on the goals of the initial contact.

These are important steps I learned from my Power Station experiences as Tony would at times throw us together with other writers without any instruction and nobody knew why we were being put together; who we were writing for or to what end, etc.... Those encounters rarely were productive. When we knew who we were there to write for and what was missing from their project, those collaborations were almost always productive. That's where I excel.

We can then take it from there. One offs are just as welcome as multiples or album projects. Also, we love when other artist choose to do our songs on their albums! Contact us to secure recording rights today! We also do commercial work such as TV and radio jingles, theme songs, custom sound track work you name it! Just love to create with words & music.

So fortunate to be a small part of the classic music scene that created the legend of places like the Stone Pony and CBGB's and studios like Shorefire Studios and the Power Station!! That world will never be again. We were lucky enough to catch the tail end of the pinnacle of the analog music industry. It was a blast! Thank you to all of you that put us there and supported us back then from the bottom of my heart!! Shorefire Recording Studios is still doing great things! Check them out.

How about this? I guarantee if you get all your friends to follow our pages, when we hit 1000 followers on Facebook or YouTube I will book a show at the Brook Arts Center or the Dunellen Theatre. You can even choose the venue!! We've done all the hard work of getting this catalog out, now it's up to you!! This is your chance to make it happen! If you want to be part of a great live show experience with us again in New Jersey including Rising Star favorites, here is your opportunity. Show those that say the scene is dead and no ones cares about music anymore that they're wrong. Good luck! We're rooting for you! (Offer expires 12/31/2026.)
