DEPUTIES INVOLVED IN TRAFFIC CRASH

UPDATE at 10:45pm - Both deputies were delivered safely to Orange Park by helicopter. Both have sustained numerous injuries and while not considered life-ending, they have a long road to recovery and are not out of the woods yet.

As in any traffic crash, we do not respond immediately to cause as an investigative team handles those duties. However, we want to be clear - both deputies were injured while doing their job protecting our community.

Sheriff DeLoach is currently meeting with families of both deputies at the hospital.

β€œI want to express my gratitude at the outpouring of care and concern our community had conveyed,” DeLoach said. β€œBoth will need continued prayers as they begin the long journey to recovery.”

ORIGINAL POST:
Please be aware the west bound lanes of SR 20 in the area of 9-mile are blocked and traffic is being diverted to the shoulder following a traffic crash involving two deputies.

Please be careful as there is a heavy emergency responder presence. Both deputies were taken by ambulance and flown to an area hospital. No other motorists were injured.

Please pray for our family tonight.

HONORING MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

This year is very different in the way we honor Martin Luther King Jr. There is no walk and no celebration downtown due to COVID concerns. And as many in our community feel like darkness is closing in, remember light and love will prevail.

Never have Rev. King's words been truer.

Some in our community have taken this day to serve others in memory of MLK. Keep Putnam Beautiful and other organizations are working to clean St. Joseph's Cemetary.

We hope for brighter days ahead, the ability to return to normalcy in the future and moments like the photo below from last year's walk.

SHERIFF'S OFFICE ASSISTS CRESCENT CITY WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT

At the request of the city manager for Crescent City, Sheriff H.D. 'Gator' DeLoach agreed to take over law enforcement responsibilities for the city as of 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4.

"We want the residents of Crescent City to know that we support them and they can expect no lapse in service as we handle law enforcement services for the municipality in the interim," DeLoach said.

The transition to law enforcement calls from the city to the sheriff's office was seamless and residents should still call or text 911 as normal if they have an emergency. Calls to request a deputy for a non-emergency should be directed to our non-emergency line at 386-329-0800.

Any questions in regards to the city's request to the sheriff's office for law enforcement services should be directed to the City of Crescent City. For their news release, please go to City of Crescent City - FL
