12/11: ANOTHER SERVING OF THE SAME.
TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update- For 12/11: We continue to sit on the edge of the northwestern flow offering high clouds and high pressure headed our way from the southwest. The combination is an uninteresting mix that will keep us mostly sunny through the day with daytime highs well above normal.

Temperatures: Lows dropped to 9 degrees valley wide this morning. Highs will look like yesterday flirting with 40. Lows tonight will look about the same.

Outlook: High pressure continues its slow spread in from the southwest pushing the northwestern flow a little further out of reach and keeping us in mild sunny conditions. There is very little moisture in play in the western weather pattern except for the atmospheric river running through the northern US. The trend for the extended forecast remains unseasonably warm and dry with just some high clouds in the mix and a whole lot of sunshine.

12/10: HIGH PRESSURE MOVING IN.
TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update- For 12/10: High pressure is slowly working its way out of CA and towards the 4 Corners and pushing this northern flow with it. We are waking up to a clear morning but lows were surprisingly mild and this will lower the chance of a valley inversion keeping temperatures cold. Look for a warm up through this afternoon to produce some sloppy streets that will freeze overnight.

Temperatures: Lows stayed warm at 11 for CB and slightly colder for Gunni at 9. Highs will be in the mid 30s flirting with 40 valley wide. Lows tonight will be a little colder.

Outlook: As this high nudges further east it will keep skies clear through the extended forecast. We may see some scattered cloud cover but this will be hard to predict. This coupled with big temperature swings through the day will make you glad for layers but also keep the sunscreen handy. Meaningful valley inversions will be a work in progress but for now expect mild daytime highs.

12/9: MORE PARTLY SUNNY MIX.
TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update- For 12/9: We are continuing to see moisture riding around the eastern edge of the CA low and dropping south across the area. Satellite imagery makes it look much more impressive than it is with just periods of cloud cover and maybe some isolated snow showers along the divide and higher terrain throughout the day. Keep layers handy but it will be an unimpressive mix like yesterday.

Temperatures: Lows have stayed more mild with the morning cloud cover at 0 for Gunni and 2 for CB. Highs will climb to 36 for Gunni and 30 for CB. Lows tonight will hold steady.

Outlook: This CA high will slowly be moving east towards the 4 Corners through Wednesday and pushing this weak tap of northern moisture out with it. The result will be clearer skies and temperatures climbing above normal to close the week. There’s a chance for valley inversions as skies clear which will keep us colder through the weekend but it will be a dry stretch either way.

❄️ Winter Is Here, Gunnison County! Here’s What to Know About Snow Removal ❄️

Before we dive in, an important reminder: snow plowing depends on jurisdiction.
🛣️ State Highways — Highways 50, 135, 149, 114, and 133 are all maintained and plowed by CDOT, not by the County!
🏙️ Municipal Streets — Each town or city plows the roads within its own boundaries.
🌄 County Roads — All remaining roads outside municipal limits are plowed by Gunnison County Public Works.

Now that winter is here, here’s how snow removal works on County roads:

🚜 Plowing Hours
Crews typically operate 4 a.m.–6 p.m. Severe storms may delay service — please limit travel when conditions are extreme.

🚦 How We Prioritize Roads
We plow based on school and transit routes, traffic volumes, safety concerns, route efficiency, and snow amounts.

🛣️ Plowing Thresholds

Paved roads: plowed at 2 inches

Gravel/dirt roads: plowed at 4 inches
(Thresholds may vary depending on conditions.)

🌙 Nighttime Plowing
We do not plow at night unless law enforcement or emergency management requests it for an active emergency.

🏡 Driveway Berms
Snow berms across private driveways are unavoidable during plowing. The County does not remove berms except when practicable during cleanup.

📬 Mailboxes
Please ensure mailboxes or other items in the right-of-way are sturdy, visible, and properly placed. The County isn’t responsible for damage caused by cast snow.

🚫 Private Roads & Snow Placement

The County cannot plow private roads or driveways except in life-threatening emergencies (call 911).

It is illegal to push or blow snow into or across County roads or ditches — snow must remain on your property (CRS § 43-5-301).

🚗 Be Winter Ready
Always carry winter tires/chains, warm clothing, water, blankets, and food.
The County does not tow stuck vehicles, but may move a vehicle blocking a road — without liability.

Our top priority is keeping our community safe during winter weather. ❄️

Stay safe out there, Gunnison County! 💙
