Description: Turacos, known also as touracos, go-away birds, and plantain-eaters, are beautiful African softbilled birds that grace many zoological parks and some private aviaries around the world. Written by an aviculturist with twenty years of experience raising turacos, this book is filled with up-to-date information and over 175 color photographs on how to care for and breed these active and unique birds. Each species and subspecies is examined, with details about their life in the wild and aviculture. Extensive information about diet, care, parent raising and hand rearing turacos is covered, including a chapter on hybridizing. Published my first full length play today. Not exactly about birds but since it is the story of the ancient Egyptian myth of Osiris and Isis, it has falcon and ibis headed gods as well as sparrows of the soul. Play is titled "The Tale of Osiris & Isis", and scripts and licensing can be bought through Teachers-Pay-Teachers website at https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/The-Tale-of-Osiris-Isis-A-Full-Length-Dramatic-Play-4722304.

Kateri Davis recently had an article published by the Avicultural Society of America (ASA) on Plovers/Lapwings. This is a great group with which to subscribe and support. In the same bulletin, there is a great article on Breeding Gold-Breasted Waxbills by fellow Oregonian Nancy Ingram, plus other excellent avian information. See http://asabirds.org.

This is great to see! While the animal rights movement is working every day to remove your freedom to have ANY animal in your life, major efforts like this supporting pet ownership are hugely beneficial. USPS even highlights reptiles as pets!

Please buy these stamps, support responsible pet ownership, and spread awareness of those trying to remove your freedom to have animals in your lives. (More on that at goo.gl/JcALAf and goo.gl/Qze6Zycontent_copyCopy short URL.)

Via USPS.com: Whether your idea of the perfect pet is a loyal dog or majestic macaw, these 20 new Forever® stamps celebrate the animals in our lives that bring joy, companionship, and love.

The stamp art for Pets features 20 existing photographs of different animals taken against white backgrounds by Eric Isselée. Each photograph represents animals we love from these groups: puppies, betta fish, iguanas, hamsters, goldfish, parrots, guinea pigs, tortoises, rabbits, kittens, corn snakes, mice, hermit crabs, chinchillas, gerbils, dogs, parakeets, horses, cats, and geckos.

More than half of U.S. homes have at least one pet, with the number growing every year. The most common domesticated animals are dogs and cats, but pets come in all shapes and sizes. Pets offer their human companions unconditional love and happiness, as well as physical and emotional health benefits. They are more than just animals; many people consider them members of the family. Whether you prefer the silky scales of a corn snake or the warm fluff of a guinea pig, responsible pet ownership begins with familiarizing yourself with the animal possession laws and regulations in your area and finding the right pet for your life and needs. Choosing a pet whose specific needs you can understand and accommodate will ensure that your new animal friend will live a happy, healthy, and safe life.

Art director Derry Noyes designed these stamps.
