💜 When you’re constantly trying to keep the peace, it’s worth asking: Do I feel safe—or am I afraid of what happens if I speak up?

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We want our community to recognize that abuse can happen without bruises or visible injuries.

Warning signs may include a partner who:
• Belittles you, humiliates you, or repeatedly tells you that you can’t do anything right.
• Tries to keep you away from friends and family.
• Controls money or prevents you from working.
• Uses jealousy to restrict your independence.
• Pressures you into sexual activity you don’t want.
• Breaks belongings, intimidates you, or threatens you, your children, or your pets.

These behaviors can be ways of gaining power and control over you. You do not have to wait for physical violence to take them seriously.

If you recognize your relationship in these signs, you deserve support without shame, blame, or pressure to have everything figured out.
If someone you love opens up, listen. Tell them you believe them. Ask what support would help. “Why didn’t you leave?” can close a conversation that took tremendous courage to start.
