Eritrea 🇪🇷 will leave the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), an East African group. The country said IGAD failed its duties, lost importance, and was unfair to some members, including Eritrea.
IGAD regretted the decision and asked Eritrea to rethink. The withdrawal takes effect on January 29, 2026.
This is Eritrea’s second exit after suspending membership in 2007 and rejoining in 2023.
The move comes amid rising tensions in the Horn of Africa, particularly with Ethiopia.
