In the middle of northwest Montana, in a remote area of the country, we found this sea of tranquility. The Garden of the Thousands Buddhas. People of all beliefs can come to pray, reflect or just to enjoy a moment of peace and the magnificent views. We are grateful to live in this country that protects the freedom to believe in what you choose while other countries still struggle with this concept. This is why the USA remains a beacon of HOPE!

One of the most difficult aspects our of project is learning to be patient. While awaiting the opportunity to continue, we try to focus on the finish line with only 7 more states to go. It has been an unpredictable, beautiful journey and surrendering has been one of the biggest lessons.

Our 36th state was Indiana. Even though we just passed through a small portion of it, we found a story of inspiration, courage and resilience. Carlos came to the United States from Spain more than 40 years ago, after marring an American woman who was visiting Spain. He decided to create a restaurant that could represent the wonderful gastronomy of his country. Little did he know that people were taking bets on how long a Spanish restaurant would last in Valparaiso, Indiana. Despite the odds and having to explain the difference between Spanish and Mexican food to many of his customers, Don Quijote has been open for 35 years. Carlos is determined to succeed when others tell him that he can't, not only has he introduced Spanish cuisine to the community, for 30 years he has fought against hunger. It is his mission to feed the hungry (specially children) and create awareness of the hunger issues that his community faces.

In July of 2017, we had the opportunity to meet Jane and Margaret in Maine. Together, they created a Community Center at Boothbay Harbor where residents of all ages gather together to share knowledge, teach and help each other. When the hospital of Boothbay Harbor was scheduled to close, they decided to take matters into their own hands. The result was the creation of an extended family, where members who might otherwise be forgotten alone at home, would have support and care. "My hope is that every community cares enough about its people to do something like this" says Jane Good, Director of The Community Center.
