Fort Pickens 9/25
"A 15-inch Rodman like this gun – one of the largest smoothbore cannon ever developed – was installed here in 1868 but never fired in combat. Though gradually replaced by rifled, breech-loading artillery, 8-, 10-, and 15-inch Rodmans remained the primary armament at Fort Pickens and other coastal forts until the late 1880s. The barrel of the 15-inch Rodman weighed 50,000 pounds. With a maximum effective range of three miles, it could fire a 15-inch diameter explosive shell weighing about 300 pounds or a solid 400-pound shot. The circular iron tracks allowed the cannon to be turned to fire in any direction." Woah.

HOME! And WOW… what an epic road trip!

This trip definitely kept us on our toes. We dealt with SO MUCH RAIN and had to change our plans more than once!

I told y’all our original plan was Acadia National Park and Gulf Islands National Seashore, but sometimes you just have to pivot. And pivot we did!

Thank you for revisiting last year’s road trip with me over the past few weeks while I’ve been sharing all those photos. It’s been fun going back through them and reliving the trip with y’all!

And now that we’re home, I can finally tell you where we actually went and what we actually did. So stay tuned!

For those wondering why I haven’t shared much about our current road trip in real time: for our safety and the safety of our house sitter, I don’t post our travel dates or locations until we’re back home. The internet is a wild place, y’all, and safety comes first.

But I’M BACK! And I’m ready to get back to making and slingin' your favorite pickles, jams, jellies, and all the other goodies you’ve been missing!

Thanks for sticking with me while we were off adventuring. Now let’s get back to business! See you at Crowley Market on Main next week! I've missed y'all!!
