On this Independence Day, we honor the courage of our Founding Fathers, the patriots who forged our freedom, & the heroes who’ve defended it for 249 years.

UNDER PRESIDENT TRUMP, THE AMERICAN SPIRIT IS BACK — BOLD, PROUD, AND FREE.

Happy 4th of July from the White House. 🇺🇸

In July's Sentro Rizal New York's "Did you Know?"

July 4 was originally commemorated as Philippine Independence Day, marking the signing of the Treaty of Manila in 1946, through which the United States formally recognized Philippine sovereignty. The date notably coincided with the United States’ own Independence Day.

In 1962, the Philippine government shifted the celebration of Independence Day to June 12, in recognition of the 1898 declaration of independence from Spain. July 4 was subsequently observed as Philippine Republic Day, and later renamed Philippine-American Friendship Day, to celebrate the enduring relationship between the Philippines and the United States.

Although July 4 is no longer a public holiday in the Philippines, most Filipinos recognize it as a day that pays tribute to the long partnership and the evolving ties between the two nations—highlighting shared history and common values.

As part of a new federal bill, $1 trillion is about to be cut from Medicaid. These cuts will have profound implications for millions of Americans, including here in NYC, the economy, and our health care system.

🇺🇸 This Fourth of July, freedom hits closer to home. 🎆

We celebrate our country’s independence but also recognize the work still ahead.

Today, many families are struggling to afford healthcare. Immigrants are living in fear of uncertainty. Mental health challenges continue to affect people of all ages. And the freedom to learn, explore science, and practice one’s faith is still challenged in many ways.

True freedom means feeling safe, being treated with dignity, and having access to the care and opportunities we all deserve.

True freedom is not the absence of struggle, but the presence of justice.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and meaningful holiday.
— Mayor Arvin Amatorio
