Postpartum visits are some of my favorite moments as a doula. The birth may be behind us, but the work of mothering is just beginning. To sit with a mama in the tender days after birth… to hold her story, her tears, her joy, and her baby - it’s a sacred assignment.
This mama is so incredibly special to me.
God knit our paths together in a way only He could. So gently, so purposefully. From the moment we met, I knew His hand was all over it.
The presence of God was so sweet in this room. It just felt like sitting in the overflow of God’s goodness.
The kind of peace you can’t manufacture, only the Holy Spirit can usher it in.
Thank you, Jesus, for letting me witness your hand at work in the lives of these families. What a gift. What a ministry. 🤍

😬🥴 Oops…sorry yall. I know I left ya hanging like a plot twist in a soap opera.😅 But bless it…I finally published another journal entry 🙃. After a little holy season of procrastination (aka me staring at my laptop w/ snacks & excuses), the follow-up to my last blog drop is finally on my website. 🥳
This journal entry is the long over-due postpartum sequel to the last birth story blog.
Late? Yeep 🤦‍♀️. Worth it? Also, yes.
👉If you haven’t read the birth story, go get caught up or this one might feel like jumping into a preacher’s sermon halfway through. (Psst, it’s the PDF right before this one 😉)
This peak into my diary is giving: frustration meets revelation. Raw reflections & redeemed moments.
So, here she is, grab your tea, put your feet up for 10 minutes & enjoy 😘

“Heart on the Floor” ♥️♥️♥️
In the hush between breath and first cry,With chux pads spread like cotton rows nearby. The room hums low with sacred grace,A mother’s war, a newborn’s face.
Swift came the tide, the final flood,A gush of warmth, a pulse of blood.🩸
Too quick for hands, to great surprise,
“I just birthed my placenta!”
The mother cries.
At the peak of the afternoon sun, this life forming organ’s journey is done.
Not on the pad, but carpet deep, where blood and thread together seep. It kissed the ground with nature’s artA crimson echo, shaped like a heart.♥️
No painter’s brush, no sculptor’s blade,Could match the mark that moment made.A fleeting truth, both raw and real,Of how we come, and how we heal.
They’ll scrub the stain, or maybe not,For some would say it marks the spot.Where pain met love in sudden graceAnd left its heart upon her birth place.

🩵 I recently attended a birth for a 3rd time boy mama and for the first time in almost 5 years of attending I got to witness something rare & beautiful.
Baby boy emerged from his mother’s womb into the birth pool and as mom brought baby to her chest I spotted a true knot 🪢 in the umbilical cord. 😍 y’all it was SO COOL!
For me, this was non alarming as her cord was in no way compromised by the knot. There was no restriction of oxygen or blood flow.
👉True knots occur in about 1% of pregnancies, usually forming early on when baby is small and active in the womb. While the idea of a knot might sound alarming, 🚨not all knots are dangerous; and this one was a perfect example of how God’s physiological design protects life.
The cord was healthy, blood flow uninterrupted…
Why? Because of Wharton’s jelly.
Wharton’s jelly is a thick, protective substance that surrounds the cord’s vessels, cushioning and preventing compression even when a knot is present.
This knot didn’t bring fear, it brought reverence. A reminder that birth is mysterious, wise, and often far more capable than we give it credit for.
Not every knot is a crisis. Sometimes, it’s just part of the story… and a beautiful one at that💫

BLOG DROP!! Take a peak into my first in person experience as a doula. In this entry you will read about the challenges that had to be navigated and the feelings I was left with. This was a time of deep reflection and reevaluation of how I would go on to serve women and families. Things did not go as I had hoped or expected, but many lessons were learned. Enjoy!

Relative risk vs. absolute risk - do you know the difference & why does it even matter?
When we are talking about informed consent, it’s super important to understand what each one means especially in regards to pregnancy🤰& childbirth🤱. When comparing the risks of stillbirth at 42 weeks vs.40 weeks you must understand the difference between relative risk & absolute risk.
Relative risk measures how much more likely stillbirth is to occur at 42 weeks compared to 40 weeks. For example: If a study shows that stillbirth occurs more often at 42 wks, the relative risk will highlight this difference. In this case, the relative risk is 2.5 times higher, that means that risk for your baby more than doubles! 🙀Sounds scary, huh? However, absolute risk provides the actual percentage or chance of stillbirth occurring at each gestational age. ✨40 weeks-0.068%, 42 weeks-0.318%✨
In conclusion, the survival rate of your baby beyond 40 weeks is still over 99% 🙌 Not so scary anymore, yea?!
By looking at both types of risks, true informed decisions can be made. But here we are, OB’s giving skewed information in order to schedule moms induction at 39 weeks left & right. Which let me let you in on a little secret, 🤫 having an induction vs spontaneous labor makes you 18-22% more likely to have a c-section, but I digress. That’s another topic for another post. Pictured is my badass cousin giving birth at home at 43 weeks gestation to the day. 💪

You name it, it’s on me. Being a birth worker certainly isn’t for the weak.

I don’t always come home this messy, but sometimes it just be like that 🤷‍♀️

“Raina; my birthkeeper, friend, and ironically, my name twin... Raina was a direct answer to months of praying for the perfect birth attendant for my freebirth. I wanted a Christian woman that knew birth was ONLY for women, a woman that understood physiological birth, a woman that was genuine and connected with me spiritually and emotionally. When I was referred to Raina after a long search, birthworker interviews, a private Facebook group, and finally a direct connection to her first birth mentor, I was blown away that we literally have the SAME name. When I texted her, she thought it was spam at first because of the crazy name thing! We chatted and I felt an instant connection/friendship developing. We scheduled a video consult for that same week. The video consult lasted much longer than planned because we were like long lost sisters! I knew she was the birthkeeper I had prayed for. Everything aligned. She checked all the boxes. I wasn't even pregnant yet but was planning to start trying in the following couple of weeks. I got pregnant right away (which I wasn't totally surprised about since my first I got pregnant immediately). Raina was one of the first people to know! During my pregnancy, she was such a beautiful and positive presence. I got her full birth package at the time and she came to me for each visit (a 2 hour drive for her!). It was sitting with a friend every time. We talked pregnancy stuff, health stuff, baby and birth stuff. Ate lunch together, sipped tea, listened to the baby and felt her movements. We prepped things together. It was a rich, peaceful, happy prenatal experience largely in part to the wild pregnancy care Raina provided me. Her companionship throughout was the cherry on top!
Being far from me, she got prepared to head out the morning I told her things felt different. She left as soon as labor signs began. She made it to the birth just minutes before my baby was born but she jumped RIGHT into action. Her soothing calm voice, her spiritual and friendly presence, her warm touch, and only doing exactly what I needed and wanted. She helped me in every way I needed. She brought so much calm to my birth no fear. She did everything to help things go smoothly with my husband and toddler with her. After my birth, she cleaned everything up, even helped me clean up. She "mothered the mother" as they say. It was the best post partum experience ever. Literally ever. From immediately after the birth to weeks later, and now 15 months have gone by and I still can't thank God enough for her and all she's been to me.
If you're getting ready to get pregnant or already are and you're looking for a traditional birth keeper with knowledge, wisdom, love, and godliness, look no further than Raina Brown. She will bless you more than you could ever imagine!!!

Love always, Raina Carrero, forever client *one baby down, who knows how many more to come 😅*”

Breech birth is a lost art. When we’re not educated about something, it’s natural to fear it. Most doctors and midwives don’t receive proper training on the normalcy of breech birth or how to handle rare complications, so the fear of breech birth runs deep, and many prefer to avoid it entirely. Even those who gain skills independently often can’t practice them in a hospital setting due to restrictions. This is why breech birth remains misunderstood and feared by so many.

For anyone wanting more info on breech then I highly recommend Dr Stu at and Dr Rixa & Dr David

When I receive messages like this from Mothers I have served, it brings me down to my knees. I thank God every day I was called to this work. But if I’m honest, most days I never truly feel worthy of it. Being a traditional birth attendant is single handedly the HARDEST and MOST rewarding role I’ve ever played in this life next to being a mother myself. MAMA’S, yall are the real MVP’s. My job is merely to sit with you and remind you of your power.

It is such an honor each and every time I am called into the sacred space of pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
Pictured first is the excitement of feeling a Braxton hicks contraction and baby moving all around in this beautiful mamas healthy and capable womb.
Prenatal time with my clients is always such a special time for me, because it becomes fellowship. The women I serve are not simply just clients. They are my friends, my family, sisters in Christ.
We are praying this mama carries to full term with this next blessing. Her first born daughter was far too eager to meet the world so she decided to make her debut at 35 weeks, which happens to be where mama is at now with her second baby.
