We're jumping into squirrel season! Here are some reminders from the Florida Wildlife Hospital:

❗️If you see a squirrel with blood, it is covered in bugs, or it has been in a cat or dog’s mouth, please bring it to a local licensed rehabber immediately. You can find licensed wildlife rehabbers through the Animal Help Now App or by contacting your local wildlife agencies.

🚫Do NOT give them food or water. Many times we recieve patients from people who tried to care for it themselves and by doing so the patient was aspirated (liquid or food entered the lungs) while trying to feed them.

🌳Renest is Best! Here are some tips on renesting baby squirrels:
- Squirrels have multiple nest in an area and they are usually found in palm trees or tall trees (made of moss, pine needles, and sticks).
- Try to reunite babies with mom by playing baby squirrel cries, we have a helpful video on our youtube page! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajkxML2VyqU
- You can make a temporary nest out of plastic containers (add drainage holes) or small basket lined with grass and attach it to a shaded tree.
- If after 4 hours the babies are still there bring them to your local licensed rehabber, you can find one on the Animal Help Now app.

We received this tiny girl 🐿️ last night. Unable to find a rescue to take her, they finally found us after 5 days!!!! They did an amazing job keeping her warm and fed for those 5 days. We are super proud of their dedication ❤️ The finders three children named her Sandy after Sandy Squirrel 🐿️ so she will keep that name.

We received this sweet boy yesterday who had been brought to the family by their cat. The bacteria in cat saliva is toxic to wildlife. Even if the animal appears okay, they need a rehabber and a round of antibiotics in order to survive. The family was unable to find a rehabber to take him until they were given our number a day later. Without immediate treatment, the outlook is grim, and unfortunately, he passed away. 😢

When we know better, we can do better! So be sure to share with all your friends and family,

Rodenticides kill more than just rodents! They have a detrimental impact on our native wildlife. There are many other alternatives that are safer. Please do your research before purchasing products such as these. Here’s a great article with alternatives to rodenticides from

Don’t forget about Aimee’s incubator fundraiser!!! It’s gotten a slow start, but we’d like to find it as soon as possible so she can help more orphaned wildlife!!!

A wildlife officer recommended I volunteer at a birds of prey facility that was in need. I began there, caring for birds. That opened me up to the world of rehab and rescue. I began doing transport, releases, and learning about many other species needing assistance. Now I can do just about anything....
