Commissioners approve Opioid Board recommendations

Commissioners on Aug. 11 approved the Crawford County Opioid Fund Disbursement Board recommendations.

The board recommended two applications from Invent Yourself. One application requested $8,771.25 for a program by Dr. Sean Siebert that is proposed for the Bourbon Middle School. The focus of the program is on behavioral health issues to help reduce factors leading to substance abuse disorders. The program also includes teacher training, and the costs are for materials and program licenses.

Parks, Rec Board focuses on grounds, pool improvements

The Cuba Parks and Recreation Board on Aug. 11 discussed improving the grounds and municipal pool.

Board member Roslind Reiner readdressed the tree in Mapleshade Park that has a large dead limb hanging over the road. She also mentioned that part of the fence needs to be power-washed.

Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health now Centerstone

Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health (SEMOBH) Steelville office leadership and staff gathered last month to announce that the group will be rebranded to “Centerstone,” along with other former-SEMOBH facilities across Missouri.

Last year, Brightli, SEMOBH’s parent company, merged with Nashville, Tennessee-based Centerstone. The merger resulted in Centerstone becoming the largest nonprofit provider of mental health and substance abuse disorder care in the United States, with 10,000 team members providing behavioral health care in offices and clinics in nine different states.

Commissioners presented with zero-cost employee health plan

Diane Noltkamper, with The Employer’s Choice, Inc., introduced the Employee Health Plan Federal Incentivized Wellness Plan

on July 28 to Crawford County Commissioners. She said it is zero cost to the county.

“What it is, is it’s a real-time reimbursement with payroll for $53.33 per employee per month, averaging $648 per year per employee,” Noltkamper said.

Requirements to qualify for the program include businesses having 10 or more full-time W2 employees, and that the business or county provide health insurance.

Witches Night on Route 66 set for Oct. 3

An event that will help bring some spooky spirit to the community was presented to the Cuba Board of Aldermen during the June 16 city meeting.

Cyndi Mercer, former Parks Board president, detailed the potential event known as ‘Witches Night on Route 66’ to the Board of Aldermen, saying that the idea of it was inspired by ‘Witches Night Out’ events in other towns and will help the Cuba community get into the holiday spirit.

Power of Hope receives $40,000 grant from Peoples Bank

Peoples Bank, in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines), awarded the Power of Hope Equestrian Center in Steelville a $40,000 grant through the Member Impact Fund.

Through the fund, a matching grant program, FHLB Des Moines participated in a three-to-one match, meaning that for every dollar donated by a member institution, FHLB Des Moines contributed three. Peoples Bank recommended Power of Hope for the program and pitched in $10,000, with FHLB Des Moines adding $30,000 on top.
