Cuba Mayor defends vote to dissolve Parks Board, cites term limits

Despite citizens voicing concerns to the Cuba City Council on Nov. 18 about dissolving and reappointing a new Parks and Recreation Board, councilmen were at a standstill, forcing Mayor Kevin Copling to break a 3-3 tie vote in favor of dismissal. Copling cited an ordinance about Parks Board term limits as his reason for encouraging and supporting the vote. The tie vote took place when Aldermen Joyce Hartzell, Ray Mortimeyer, and Harold Halbert voted for the removal of the board, while Pitts Lesesne, Richard Hewkin, and Jeff Bouse voted no.

Widows can always find something to be grateful for

Eagle Flight Ministries, founded by Cindy Martin of Steelville celebrated thankfulness at November's widows' luncheon. Each month Martin along with her team of volunteers host a luncheon for any widows in the Steelville community and surrounding areas. November is always a good month to focus on what we have to be thankful for in our lives even after the loss of a loving partner. The cooks at Golden Echoes prepared a traditional Thanksgiving feast serving up turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, hot rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy along with a variety of desserts. After the ladies enjoyed their delicious meal they sat back and listened to a guest speaker Cindy Winters, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Healthcare Consultant turned coach with a certification in Health and Wellness Coaching from Duke’s Integrative School of Medicine.

CUBA – Cuba High School’s girls basketball team began their season on Nov. 22 in a matchup against Richland in the Blue Fish Shootout at Rolla High School.

The Lady Wildcats found themselves in a tight 22-21 advantage at halftime after a back-and-forth first half. Cuba’s defense then tightened to a vice grip and gave up just two points in the third quarter and nine points in all of the second half to propel the Lady Cats to a 38-30 victory.
