Applications Open for 2026 Missouri Youth Pork Ambassador Scholarship Program

The Missouri Pork Association (MPA) is now accepting applications for the 2026 Youth Pork Ambassador Program. This program provides students the opportunity to actively engage with leaders in Missouri’s pork industry while earning a $1,000 scholarship, payable to any technical school, community college, or four-year institution.

Meramec Regional Planning Commission to discuss Crawford County transportation needs Oct. 28

ST. JAMES—Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) Executive Director Bonnie Prigge, Planning Manager Anne Freand and Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) Meramec Area Engineer Preston Kramer will meet with Crawford County commissioners and citizens to discuss transportation needs on the state system Oct. 28, 2025, at the Courthouse Commission meeting room, 111 Third St., Steelville. The meeting will start at 10 a.m.

Wildcats dominate second half to defeat Bayless

After a tough stretch of five losses in a row and a canceled homecoming game, the Cuba High School football team was in need of a feel good win on Oct. 17 during Senior Night. The Wildcats did just that, rebounding from a difficult week with a decisive 48-20 win over Bayless with Hancock on Friday night at Wildcat Pride Field.

Lady Cats’ season ends after loss in Districts to Sullivan

The Cuba High School softball team’s season wrapped up this week after hosting Newburg on Oct. 13 and competing in Districts on Oct. 15 against Sullivan.

Against Newburg, the Lady Wildcats fell into an 8-0 hole after two innings.

However, Cuba battled, didn’t get mercy ruled and played all seven innings. The Wildcats ended up falling 15-2, but recorded nine hits and had multiple standouts.

Drivers are reminded to watch for deer, which are more active this time of year, especially during evening and nighttime hours. Deer behavioral changes will be occurring due to mating season, which may cause an increase in roadway crossings. Hunting and crop harvesting may result in these animals being in places they aren’t usually seen. Drivers are urged to remain alert.
