Local Talent Spotlight — Jay Betts

If you know the Betts family, you already know—they’re some of the kindest, most genuine people you’ll ever meet. And right in the middle of that sweetness is Jay Betts, a Cullman native who spends his free time doing something he truly loves: taking photographs of the community he calls home.

Jay doesn’t “do” photography for a job. He does it because he enjoys it. But make no mistake—he is incredibly skilled. He has an eye for detail, patience for the perfect moment, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of Cullman.

One of his photos has become something of a local legend: the stunning image of the Cullman Christkindlmarkt lit up at night. You’ve probably seen it floating around because it perfectly captures the joy, energy, and magic of that evening. What many people don’t realize is the dedication behind it—Jay spent time scouting out just the right spot to showcase the lights, the ferris wheel, the fireworks, the tree, and the excitement of the crowd. In the misting tain, he captured pur magic. The final result is a photo that has become truly iconic in our town.

Jay also recently captured the historic Clarkson Covered Bridge, which appeared on our February 2025 cover. Jay makes Cullman look even more beautiful than we remember it.
We absolutely love working with him! Jay manages to bottle up the spirit of Cullman in every shot.
