Years have passed since the original Zathura board game was lost in space, but its legacy endures. In present day, Maya, a tech-savvy teenage girl and her younger brother Leo discover a strange digital console cartridge buried in their grandfather's attic—an old prototype game based on Zathura, now rebooted in 16-bit retro graphics. When Leo activates the console, their house is instantly launched back into deep space, once again becoming a battleground for cosmic calamity. But this time, Zathura has evolved. Instead of simple board game cards, the new version responds to player choices, generating real-time consequences: time loops, black hole puzzles, space pirates with AI minds, and warped alternate realities. The siblings must work together, deciphering a deeper mystery behind the game’s origin—learning that Zathura wasn't just a game, but a safeguard prison created by an extinct alien race to contain a powerful, sentient energy being called The Void Architect. As the game’s levels get harder and more personal, Maya and Leo must confront their fractured relationship and inner fears, especially when they discover that the only way to finish the game is to beat themselves in a final mirrored boss level—versions of themselves corrupted by fear and selfishness.
