An OG beer for me. This beer elicits so many memories of not only my home state, but of a time when I was learning a lot about craft beer and exploring the many emerging styles. has been brewing beer since the 90s and this beer to me was such a great step forward in beer when first introduced. During a season when most breweries are focussed on Octoberfest, or pumpkin bees, this red IPA still holds up in all its malty hoppy ghoulish goodness! Cheers to a killer beer that that stands the test of time!! 🧛‍♂️ 🍺

In my latest venture in exploring the local brew scene of St Pete FL, I finally made it somewhere I’ve been wanting to visit since before they opened, . And honestly one word comes to mind: impressive. I was blown away with the overall vibe, environment, and design of sesh, pictures don’t do it justice. The “creepy” theme could have gone dark, but instead, it feels fun, classy, and exciting! The likes of Beatlejuice, ghostbusters, and Pac-Man ghosts adorn the walls achieving a unique fun feel! The beer was an impressive staple that I found to be well ahead of my expectations given the short life span of the brewery! Then there’s the most import part of any establishment, or business…the people. And every single person I encountered here could not have been more welcoming, more friendly, or more helpful. Amazing all around with a dynamic menu of interesting dishes, craft beer, and specialty cocktails! I can not wait to come back! 🍻

Ok. I haven’t posted about a single beer in a while. Ok a very long time. But I felt a particular beer recently called for such a share. As seen in this post, has been going a little bananas lately with a banana cream sour AND stout. And for me, it was the stout. I can’t fully explain why the banana works so well. I’m not a huge fan of chocolate covered bananas or anything, but the “moby dip” stout just does it for me! The banana in a stout just brings a refreshing fun flavor to the style that got me into craft beer in the first place. It drinks incredibly smooth, sweet, but not too sweet, chocolaty, and a banana punch that makes this beer fun and easy to drink, as in I just finished it since I started writing this post. In closing, to me brings the fun to craft beer (as always) but especially with this banana banger! The sour is pretty special too and all those things I mentioned, but in a sour. If you’re looking for an M Night Shyamalong type twist in your craft beer drinking journey, I say go bananas!!! 🍺🍌

The bean!!! Whether you like light, medium, or dark. Ethiopian, Colombian, or Guatemalan. natural, honey, or washed. brewing pour-overs, drip, or press, I think we can agree, there is a never-ending quest to create an exceptional coffee tasting experience. Even for those who just want a cup of Joe, or a little pick me up, I beg you drive by the drive thru!! Let your coffee journey lead you into an adventure of discovering new and amazing flavors! And These flavors aren’t found in a syrup bottle. They’re found at the origin of coffee, in the soil, with the farmers, and through the process. The outcome? A beautiful culinary, cultural masterpiece that pushes our expectations of what we simply have known to call coffee. So dare to venture with me as we near closer and closer to re-launching the Hop & the bean. And in the process, I hope we make tons of new friends, discover innovative coffee (and beer) and maybe even learn something new about ourselves along the way. Stay hopped up, and stay tuned…

It is a beautiful thing to experience the hard work and artistry that a brewer puts in for each and every beer, or a roaster into their coffee beans.

I wanted to take a quick post to reflect on my time here over the last 5 months. I have met and connected with SO many people. The consistent motivation from comments, likes, and people wanting me to check out coffee shops in the 330 area was amazing. I wanted to thank every shop I've been to one more time.
