๐ BURGER WATCH ๐จ: Is this Bacliff eatery worth the drive?
This independently owned restaurant on Grand Avenue in the heart of Bacliff opened its brick-and-mortar location on March 1 after previously operating as a popular food truck. It has quickly become a local favorite for comfort food and hearty handheld creations.
๐ Over the past few months, it has attracted diners, and rave reviews, from across Bacliff, San Leon, Kemah and Dickinson. It was a packed house during my visit, and everyone around me was practically shouting about how wonderful their meals were.
Those meals include a variety of beefy, lacy smash burgers, saucy wings, "Hot Dawgs" and more. I went with The OG Burger which is topped with American cheese, grilled onions, pickles and signature sauce for $13, including a side. The garlic Parmesan fries are the crowd favorite. ๐
๐ฅ Served on a toasted plain white bun, there's no Wagyu or fancified ingredients here, but the flavor is bold, meaty and packed with umami. The crispy, caramelized edges, thanks to the Maillard reaction on a smoking-hot griddle, deliver exactly what a smash burger should.
๐ญ The Frito Pie Dawg is a five-napkin affair, loaded with a thick all-beef wiener, chili, cheese, corn chips and sour cream. It's priced at $12 with a side, though they were kind enough to let me order it ร la carte for a taste.
๐ค The service is friendly, the prices are reasonable and the vibe is pure roadside country cafรฉ.
So, is it worth the drive? Abso-forkin-lutely.
