๐Ÿ” BURGER WATCH ๐Ÿšจ: Is this Bacliff eatery worth the drive?

This independently owned restaurant on Grand Avenue in the heart of Bacliff opened its brick-and-mortar location on March 1 after previously operating as a popular food truck. It has quickly become a local favorite for comfort food and hearty handheld creations.

๐ŸŒŠ Over the past few months, it has attracted diners, and rave reviews, from across Bacliff, San Leon, Kemah and Dickinson. It was a packed house during my visit, and everyone around me was practically shouting about how wonderful their meals were.

Those meals include a variety of beefy, lacy smash burgers, saucy wings, "Hot Dawgs" and more. I went with The OG Burger which is topped with American cheese, grilled onions, pickles and signature sauce for $13, including a side. The garlic Parmesan fries are the crowd favorite. ๐ŸŸ

๐Ÿ”ฅ Served on a toasted plain white bun, there's no Wagyu or fancified ingredients here, but the flavor is bold, meaty and packed with umami. The crispy, caramelized edges, thanks to the Maillard reaction on a smoking-hot griddle, deliver exactly what a smash burger should.

๐ŸŒญ The Frito Pie Dawg is a five-napkin affair, loaded with a thick all-beef wiener, chili, cheese, corn chips and sour cream. It's priced at $12 with a side, though they were kind enough to let me order it ร  la carte for a taste.

๐Ÿค  The service is friendly, the prices are reasonable and the vibe is pure roadside country cafรฉ.

So, is it worth the drive? Abso-forkin-lutely.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ Gaspachos Mexican Bites has opened its first restaurant location, nearly a decade after launching as a small trailer in Alief.

Founded by Jennifer Perez, the Houston-grown concept expands to a permanent home at 2103 Lyons. The new location builds on the success of its food trucks, park appearances and Levy Park kiosk.

Fresh fruit creations remain at the center of the menu, including Gaspacho Moreliano, chamoy-covered fruit bowls, Tostilocos and Piรฑa Loca. Savory options include Michoacรกn-style carnitas tacos, al pastor tacos, birria, asada, Cubanas and Tortas Ahogadas.

๐Ÿน The new location also introduces a full-service bar with Aguas Locas, Micheladas, Botaneras, Margaritas, Mojitos and Mangonadas. Families are welcomed with a kid-friendly menu featuring quesadillas, hot dogs and candy-topped snow cones.

The 2,514-square-foot restaurant is designed to bring the feel of Mexico City's street food culture indoors through colorful seating, natural materials and a central walk-up bar. Seating is available for up to 93 guests, with ordering offered at the counter, through kiosks or by QR code.
