Hi Dade City. It’s with a very heavy heart that I make this post.
Unfortunately, I have to shut the Wire down. I’m very sorry, I wish I could have gotten it all figured out, but I’ve failed at making this work.
The project took off so quickly that I’ve been holding on trying my best not to steer this into the side of a mountain. Since September, the Wire has produced some great Dade City focused content and I’m proud of that.
I’ve had a lot of fun meeting all of you and I thank you for allowing me the opportunity to peek into your lives and to tell your stories. Hopefully, the Wire has provided some value for you along the way as well.
Alas, a project like local news is almost exclusively funded through local advertising revenue and I was not able to secure enough to really make a go at this.
We had a good run, though. In 4 months, we managed:
• 105,000+ podcast downloads
• 18,000+ site views
• 20,000+ consistent monthly social media post engagements
• 2,300+ social media reach (page and group)
• 50+ local distribution locations
• 8,700 print newspapers circulated
In the end, I just wasn’t able to get it figured out on the monetization side and I’m out of time and resources. You deserve a local news source and hopefully something will emerge to fill the gap.
I’m very sorry, Dade City.
