A Book That Haunts My Dreams

There’s a book that keeps finding its way back into my thoughts… almost haunting my dreams. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been working toward writing my own children’s book, or if there’s just something magical or spiritual about it…but it won’t let go.
Maybe that’s what stories do when they have something to tell us. Some of my friends think it’s a ghost or it’s haunted.

A few weeks back, while wandering through a vintage bookshop in Merrickville, Ontario, surrounded by shelves whispering with memories, I felt that same familiar tug. That book ♥️

The scent of old pages, the creak of wooden floors, it all felt like stepping into a forgotten story waiting to be remembered.

There’s something timeless about places like this, where imagination lingers between the smell of ink, dust and the poetry.

Now I can’t decide…
Should I go back and buy it?

first snowfall is coming | DIY Fire starters to forage now

Nothing quite captures the essence of cottage life like curling up by a crackling fire. Why not offering these handmade fire starters as a Christmas gift or homemade hostess Thanksgiving gift.

As the days grow cooler and evenings stretch longer, here’s a little craft to bring the warmth indoors: homemade fire starters! Not only do they add a touch of charm to your fireside rituals, but they’re also a fantastic way to upcycle natural materials.

What You’ll Need:

•Pinecones, pine needles, dried flowers, dried orange peels, or cinnamon sticks
•Wax (beeswax or soy works great)
•Twine or cotton string
•Essential oils (optional, for a subtle fragrance)
•Dried herbs like rosemary, lavender, or sage

Instructions:

Gather Your Ingredients: Forage pinecones from your last nature walk, save orange peels from your morning tea, or use cinnamon sticks from the pantry.

Add Twine: just before the wax has set, add a string of twine in each fire starter for a cottagecore look and easy lighting.

Melt the Wax: Gently heat your wax until it becomes a smooth liquid. If you love subtle scents, add a few drops of essential oil.

Dip and Decorate: Place your pinecones, peels, or cinnamon sticks into a muffin pan, add the wax, ensuring they get a generous coating. Sprinkle dried herbs over the waxy surface for an added rustic touch.

Keep a basket of these homemade fire starters by the fireplace, they’re not just useful but add a rustic, decorative touch to your cozy nook. Happy crafting and even cozier fireside moments!

As the cold settles in, I’ve found that the coziest moments are those spent indoors, surrounded by warmth, the flickering glow of candles and the scent of fresh winter forests. This winter, I’m embracing the art of crafting my own candles, using melted wax, vintage finds and nature’s gifts.

It started with an old, weathered metal plate I discovered at a thrift shop—a piece of history with its own stories to tell. I could already picture it, nestled in the center of my living room, holding something magical.

As the candle solidified, it transformed into a piece of art—a rustic, nature-infused treasure. The vintage plate now glowed softly with the light of the flame, and the scent of cedar and fir drifted through the room, carrying with it memories of snowy walks in the woods.

There’s something so special about making your own candles—each one a reminder of the beauty and peace winter brings. Whether placed on a mantel, gifted to a loved one, or enjoyed during a quiet evening at home, this little creation fills the space with warmth, nature and love.
