Dahlonega Weather Forecast Update Sunday 3/15/2026 1045am - Post 1
We are going to get a little bit over everything over the next 36 hours...thunder and rain and snow showers...oh my!
First up is your Sunday and what you see is what you get with mostly cloudy skies and scattered random showers during the afternoon. Not a washout or anything like that by any means. Next...
Overnight Sunday we track a line of severe thunderstorms moving along a very strong cold front for this time of year. The highest severe/tornado threat will be west and south of us but we are not completely out of the zone. The line of severe storms should arrive around 5-6a Monday morning. The attached image is what the radar could look like during that time frame. Heavy rain and strong winds and possibly hail are the most likely forms of severe weather we will experience. This will need to be watched for the threat of a quick spin up tornado. Again the highest threat is way west and south of us but due to the nature of the upper levels with a digging upper level trough and backing winds with height, the potential for a tornado somewhere nearby is possible. Next...
Monday....the severe line races thru quickly early AM leaving behind scattered showers and rain. As the upper level trough to our west continues to dig towards the south into MS and AL, it will generate another round of precip that will track across our area during the 1-4pm timeframe. This moisture is behind the cold front and the upper levels will be cooling rapidly so this next batch of precip will likely switch over to a period of snow or snow showers from 2-4pm on your Monday. Temps will fall rapidly into the 30s during the afternoon. If the snow pans out as shown on some of the models, a dusting or so would be possibly mostly on elevated surfaces and non pavement areas. Higher elevations like Big Canoe, Suches northward have the best shot are minor accumulations. Next...
Monday night into Tuesday...Now we get cold with lows in the low to mid 20s Monday night and highs on Tuesday only reach the low 40s. Then Tuesday night we dip back into the 20s once again.
Enjoy and updates will follow as the event draws closer.
