There is a chance for light snow Wednesday (New Year’s Eve) during the late morning to afternoon, though amounts are expected to be minimal with accumulations of a dusting north/northeast and flurries elsewhere. Isolated slick spots could occur, which may impact travel.

Here are the 24 hour peak wind gust reports from 9am Sunday December 28th to 9am today. Reports of 45-55 mph were common across many locations, with the highest gust at Marshalltown of 61 mph! Winds will continue to diminish through the rest of today.

Though the sun is making a welcome return, frigid temperatures are expected to remain today, with the coldest weather through the rest of the morning and into the afternoon with minimum wind chill values down to -10 to -20 over the northern parts of Iowa, and around 0 to -10 further south. Temperatures do improve this evening and especially Tuesday with feels like values in the 20s. Please make sure to cover any exposed skin and limit time outdoors today!

Isolated blowing and drifting snow is expected to remain as gusty winds out of the northwest continue through the morning, with gusts up to 45 mph expected. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for northwest to north central Iowa until noon. Hazardous travel is still expected, so please be very careful out there!
