Good luck to the different Dalhart teams that are playing this weekend. The Dalhart Golden Wolves play their first football game of the season tonight at Perryton, with the game starting at 7 p.m. The Lady Wolves varsity volleyball team is at a tournament in Denver City today and tomorrow, and the cross country teams run at Wolf Creek near Perryton tomorrow. The freshman volleyball team is playing at a tournament at Amarillo High School today and tomorrow as well.

Josey Dunavan of Clayton was crowned as the 2026 XIT Rodeo Queen earlier this evening. The first photo shows (l-r) Josey with 2025 Queen Ellie Clift, and the second photo also includes former XIT Rodeo Queen Sofia Latini, who is the reigning Tri-State Rodeo Queen. There will be an interview with Josey in the August 13 edition of the Dalhart Texan.

The third step in the World's Largest Free BBQ took place about an hour ago, with the lighting of the firewood. After the fire is lit, another tradition is that the directors, their wives, and queen and queen candidates pose for photos in front of the blazing fire. (If you watch the video to the very end, you'll see a lightning strike behind the fire.)

The second step in making the World's Largest Free BBQ is stacking up the wood in the pits. (The first is seasoning the meat.) The wood will be set on fire early Friday morning, about 1 a.m., and after it burns down to just coals and ashes the meat will be thrown into the pits in canvas bags, covered up, and allowed to roast for about 25 hours until Saturday afternoon. Dalhart High football players, volleyball players and FFA members helped with stacking the wood.

Attention Dalhart Golden Wolves football season ticket holders: Reserved seating football tickets will go on sale to current season ticket holders starting Monday, August 3, 2026, through Monday, August 17, 2026 at 12 p.m. Tickets are $30.00 per seat for the year. Tickets not picked up and paid for within this time frame will go on sale to the public starting Monday, August 17, 2026, after 1:00 p.m.
General Admission tickets for all home games for 9th , JV, and varsity will be on GoFan. There will be NO CASH accepted at the gates.
