On my last hunt we were stalking Axis deer through the hill country of Texas. Most of the country was too flat, and with tall grass, making it very unlikely to get a prone shooting position.

This is one perfect use case for the Spartan Springbok Tripod.

It’s easy to carry around all day and you can have your rifle setup and make micro adjustments to your shooting position extremely fast and easily.

If you need to cover lots of ground, be ready in a flash and shoot off sticks, you should absolutely look at this product. It’s lighter and faster to deploy than any other tripod. End of story.

I got to try out the new HM55R RENEGADE on my Free-Range Axis Hunt in April. This might be the perfect headlamp for hunters. It’s got spot, flood, and red light settings and goes up to 1200 maximum lumens with a max run time of 120 hours. Check it out at Fenixlighting.com. 📸

I am genuinely stoked about working with this year. They have so many killer options; litterally everything from trail runners to the most hardcore mountaineering boots you can find, everything in between, and more. They’re European made, have an amazing US team and the quality is exceptional.

On my last hunt, in the Texas Hill country during spring weather, I chose the Zypher boot. Extremely lightweight and comfortable while till offering great support and durability. I plan to wear the Camino’s on my next trip to Kodiak island in August.

If you haven’t yet, you should really consider boots. This is one of my new partnerships for 2026 that I am most stoked about. 🤙🏻🥾🏔️ 📸

Hunt Recap PODCAST Live!

As far as my typical Hunts go, this three day free-range Axis deer Hunt in Texas was supposed to be easy. But I’m always reminded there’s no such thing as an easy hunt and this one literally came down to the last 20 minutes of light on the last day. It was NOT easy and because of that, it was a great story and so much sweeter in the end. It actually, to my surprise, turned out to be one of my most memorable hunts in a long time.

Once again, I was reminded of the power of faith and that God is a good father and wants to bless his children. Hunting has a way of reminding us what it means to be a human and to walk with God. Enjoy this episode with my friend and camera guy

A lot of my gear changes based on the environment and type of hunt. My loadout on this desert mule deer hunt in Texas looked very different from that of my backcountry muzzleloader deer hunt in Utah a few months before. But one constant is that I don’t go anywhere without my Fenix HM65R rechargeable Headlamp.

When you hunt hard like I do, you end up hiking in the dark. A lot. This simply wouldn’t be possible without a dependable headlamp. The floodlight function, reliability and insane battery life are why I will always trust lights.

I am really looking forward to my first big game hunt of 2026! In a few weeks, I’ll be headed back to Texas for my first ever Free-Range Axis Hunt and you can bet my Fenix will be in the pack!

Use your tools. The smartwatch is one of the most under rated tools that I use everyday, in the field and at home.

My favorite model, the Tactix 8, can help you keep track of windage and elevation ballistics, wake you up in time to make it to your spot, track your hikes and location and even has a backup flashlight. At home, my watch helps me train efficiently for the mountains. It’s a safety redundancy and tool that is well worth the investment in my opinion.

I was super impressed with the accuracy and muzzle velocity (3K+ FPS) I got out of my Silver Series Ammo this year. My X-Bolt 2 really loved it and it did work on the animals I was blessed to take shots on. If you’re setting up a new rifle or want to try some new factory loads this off-season, I would absolutely recommend trying out Browning Ammunition.
