Neverweakened Session 27: Mountain's Toe Gold Mine (Part One)
The party processes accidentally killing King Hekaton before heading back to Phandalin to dress their wounds and rest.
On their way to Stonehill Inn, they stop at the town smithy to upgrade and reforge some weapons using artificer magic. There at the forge their old friend Don-Jon Raskin came to ask a favor: his friend Darthag Ulgar, who manages the mining operation at Mountain's Toe Gold Mine, is missing.
Darthag comes into town once a tenday to meet with Don-Jon at the Sleeping Giant tavern but hasn't shown up the last two times. Don-Jon wants the party to es**rt him to Mountain's Toe to investigate further.
The ruckus at the otherwise mostly unused smithy draws a crowd of grateful and adoring villagers as the party is regaled with gift baskets and coin for slaying Isendraug, the Dragon of Icespire Peak.
Most villagers assumed the dragon's death took their worries with it but the party now knows of a greater threat to the realm.
Lady Dara, much older than she looks and not so quick to celebrate, also has a request of the party: to clear out an old dwarven fortress near town at the bast of the mountains, in case she ever needs to evacuate her people.
After a hearty meal served up by some Clerics of the Brew [Creature Codex by Kobold Press] at Stonehill Inn and a long night's rest, the party awakens to an additional +12 temp HP from the wholesome divine goodness of the clerics.
Don-Jon is amazed at the site of the Neverweakened, and even more so once inside, on the main deck with Seven and all the ship's active control panels. Suspending disbelief and taking a big gulp, Don-Jon puts his faith in these boys" and just assumes he's not in danger.
Upon arrival at the Mountain's Toe Gold Mine, the party decided to leave the ship a safe distance out of earshot from the mine's entrance.
Mando and Null used magic and excellent stealth rolls to scout out the situation, discovering the mine to be overrun by wererats.
After regrouping, the group decides to attack head on, but starting with a surprise attack, making short work of the Whiskered Gang's front entrance guards.
We end the session at the beginning of our heroes fight with the rest of the Whiskered Gang, and their leader, Zeleen Varnaster.
