Rep. Jasmine Crockett has officially filed to run for the U.S. Senate in Texas, introducing a major shift to the Democratic primary just hours before the state’s filing deadline. Her name appeared Monday on the Texas Democratic Party’s candidate list, confirming weeks of speculation about her next political move.
Crockett’s decision comes as her Dallas-area House district was significantly altered in a GOP-led mid-decade redistricting effort that reconfigured political lines across North Texas.
The congresswoman, now in her second term, enters the Senate race with strong national visibility and a record of high-profile clashes with Republican leadership, including former President Donald Trump.
She will challenge Sen. John Cornyn, who faces multiple primary opponents of his own. While Democrats have not won statewide office in Texas in more than 30 years, party leaders view the 2026 Senate contest as a potential pickup opportunity in a narrowly divided chamber.
