The City of Fort Worth has reached a proposed $11.25 million settlement with the estate of Atatiana Jefferson, nearly seven years after she was fatally shot by former Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean inside her home in October 2019.

The settlement would resolve the civil claims related to Jefferson’s death. Her two young nephews are expected to receive the largest portions of the settlement, which would be held in trust until they turn 18. Other family members would receive portions as well.

Dean was convicted of manslaughter and is serving nearly 12 years in prison. The proposed settlement still requires approval from the Fort Worth City Council on August 25 and subsequently by a probate court before it becomes final.

Jefferson’s family said the settlement represents a measure of accountability but emphasized that no amount of money can bring her back or erase their loss. The family also plans to continue honoring her legacy through The Atatiana Project.

Dallas ISD Police Officer Justin Jones, 39, is in stable condition after being shot Thursday morning while helping a man who police say was in crisis on LBJ Freeway near Midway Road. Police say Jones moved the man to a nearby Sam’s Club parking lot to get him away from traffic when the shooting occurred.

Jones was shot in the leg and rushed to Parkland Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He has served with Dallas ISD Police for 16 years and is assigned to W.T. White High School. A suspect was taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

The Fort Worth Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying an unidentified Black male whose body was found on August 6, 2026, near the railroad tracks in the 2000 block of E. Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth.

Due to the condition of the body, investigators were unable to make a positive identification. Police released artist renderings of several distinctive tattoos, including a large chest tattoo, a script tattoo on the forearm, and a large “K” tattoo on the upper arm, in hopes someone will recognize them.

24 ARRESTED IN ALLEGED NEW JERSEY DRUG TRAFFICKING INVESTIGATION

Twenty-four people were arrested following a three-month investigation into an alleged drug trafficking network operating across Morristown, Victory Gardens, Dover, and nearby communities in Morris County, New Jersey.

According to authorities, the investigation focused on the alleged distribution of he**in and co***ne. Investigators reported seizing more than 1,400 folds of suspected he**in, approximately 55 grams of suspected co***ne, over $33,500 in cash, and 11 vehicles believed to be connected to the investigation.

A Collin County jury found 41-year-old Leslie Price of Princeton guilty of Prohibited Sexual Conduct after DNA evidence confirmed he fathered a child with his 17-year-old daughter.

In a social media post, Nolan's mother expressed her frustration and disbelief, writing, "Whoever sent this to my home, may the good Lord have mercy on your soul. Bold enough to send this crap but not bold enough to list your return address."
